Children chalking over our land

Charliec12 · 22/07/2024 22:12

Hi all, am I over reacting? My neighbours brought their children some chalks at the weekend. The children are chalking everywhere with them including on my driveway which we half share with them. My OH said to one of the children tonight that the area looked a mess. Said child started crying and then the Mum came out and was confrontational and annoyed with me that I don’t agree with it looking nice in the area. I also have 2 young children and I get they want to have fun.

You don't want your children to see other children playing and being happy. You and your husbands behaviour must have damaged them and all your worried about is chalk. I bet your kids are living on eggshell's waiting for the next drama. Kicking off over a bit chalk.

My kids are very happy thanks. Yes people make mistakes and they make decisions to change. I guess you have been perfect all your life 👏

We don’t have issues 😁 old news.

Never is for the kids though is it? They hold on to stuff like that 😬 anyways, not my problem!
Good luck with the chalk situation, don't think they'll do it again.

Make it up to your children rather than take it out on the neighbours. It's not your neighbours or your childrens fault you two lost your way. Your upset over chalk what about your children and what they have witnessed for the past few years. You were having issues this year as well that would have affected your children. It's everyone else's fault and your world is perfect.

You can witter on about chalk and not bother with your children. You find talking about chalk more interesting than playing with your own children.

Well they are at school so I have time to talk about chalk. Why be personal and make out I am a bad Mum?

Sometimes you make relationships work and you move on from you past. You do know that don’t you?

Really? Bit silly if people are offended about me calling a driveway land.

Nobody is offended. We just think it sounds a bit ridiculous to use the phrase 'our land' unless you belong to the landed gentry.

It's about you and how you feel your husband has more empathy than you. I really feel for your children. You say both your children are at school now your 8 and 3 year old? I know a lot of schools finished last week and your still posting away.

netflixfan · 23/07/2024 15:28

Id be so chuffed if there were kids chalking on my drive, it's sweet and harmless. Also "my land" ! Are you a feudal lady?

Highlighta · 23/07/2024 15:28

OP, answer this honestly.

If your dh hadn't shouted at the child, would this incident have bothered you this much?

Has the chalk being there upset you or was it more your dh's reaction that has?

I brought up my children they're no longer little 16, 18 and 20. I was helping my 18 year old.find jobs earlier. Your 3 year old is at school or after school care?

I am not that bothered just answering most of the comments. I just wanted opinions on it really.
