3.5yr old gravitates towards sound toys but I can't stand the voices

I'd like to get my 3.5 year old an electronic interactive toy, because I know he'd love it - he always focuses on them when we are thrifting or in a toy store.
... but in general those things drive me crazy. The generic balloon-ish character art. The awful hokey dialog. The obnoxious voices and sound effects. Does anything exist that is more... tasteful?

My sons a bit younger so these may be too babyish but I always thought the least grating voices were on baby Einstein toys. They do some music/learning languages toys which are OK.
