6yr old toys

6yr old (boy) declares he has nothing fun to play with anymore as everything is babyish (also have a 3yr old boy and 19month girl). Lego his favourite thing is to be kept in bedroom only due to youngest potentially eating it. Other than that have cars, hotwheels, kitchen, domino runs, puzzles etc but what other things would be good and get played with?

Why not ask him?

and also dont banish him to his room to play with lego if that is his favourite. Have him sat at the dining table and control the toddler.

Playmobil was a big hit with dc1 when he was six. He particularly liked the knights/castle/pirates. Still gets played with now he's 8.

DS is 6 and is keen on Jurassic world, super hero's, sonic / Mario.

Mine liked building the Brio train track and I got him a battery operated train to go round. I then gave it too my neighbours DS who loved it

He got his Nintendo DS then too which he loved and it taught him to read well very quickly because of course there are instructions to follow in the Professor Leyton games which he adored. It helped expand his vocabulary

Depending on time/willing adults around you could also start playing some simple card games and draughts. I always felt very grown up playing those when the little ones couldn't!

Our DC like playing:
Magnatiles
Scalectrix
Lego
Super Mario toy cars/track
Top Trumps
Quick games (Taco Cat, Pass the Pigs, Uno, Brainbox etc.)
Playmobil
Marble run

My DS was obsessed with jigsaw puzzles and was doing quite large ones by then.

This is the age they really like having a Switch. Mine had a Wii back in the day

There are a lot hours to fill in the day especially during the summer holidays.

So lots of park visits, outdoor stuff and then the quiet play winding down stuff.

DD liked happyland and hated all video games still does.

Oh yes building a teepee in the garden or living room went down well with a paddling pool and a little tykes water play table. We had a pirate ship one, we also had a little Wendy house.

Connetix is (very) expensive but awesome.

My son absolutely loved the giant Playmobil Castle set and played with it until he was 11. Then we passed it on and another child plays with it now.

Favourites here are:

Brio train track (still going strong having added new whizzy components over the years)

Lego

Monopoly, Labyrinth, Scrabble, Dobble, Uno, Bananagrams and other board games

Funny Bunny is a very appealing and fun kids board game loved by any visiting kids

Jump In (by Smart Games - there are loads of similar logic games to choose from)

A huge box full of art materials

A cash register

Brio construction set (think it says a younger age on it but only at 5/6 do they start to make interesting stuff really)

Jigsaws (Usborne do lovely sets with 300-piece jigsaw and coordinating book) or if that would be overwhelming the Djeco shaped jigsaws are fab

National Geographic kids binoculars, magnifying glass, compass
