Sylvanian Families

My little girl expressed a real interest in this today at the shops. She has so much stuff I'm a bit stuck for her bday soon so I was glad to be looking for something different! There so many cute bits too!

So I've had a look online at the houses, my question is do they come with any furniture? It shows furniture in the pics but then also shows it empty. It then details everything u get an there's no mention of any furniture. I'm guessing if you have to buy it all separately then it's going to be very expensive. She's going to be 3 so maybe still a bit young. Maybe I'd be better starting with some smaller sets and make sure she plays with it enough to justify the pricey stuff.

You have to buy it all separately. So yes expensive but my DD also expressed an interest at 3, she’s now 5 and it’s the only thing that’s played with daily and it’s easy to add small bits as/when. On that basis it’s one of the best value for money things I’ve bought, definitely up there with the lego/duplo. Amazon currently have deals on a few of the sets.

No, you have to buy the furniture separately. We got our DD the windmill one Christmas when she was about 4 and my mum got her furniture and a couple of the animal sets.

I've only just sold them on marketplace begrudgingly because they're so lovely! But she's just gone to high school and they were just gathering dust.

Thank you! Oh that's gd to know it's still a favourite a few years later. I'll have a look on Amazon 👍

That's the other thing I was thinking too, think you get reasonable money back selling them on later too. Also her big sister is 5 no doubt she'll like them too although might start a few fights 😂

My 3 year old little boy is into Sylvanian Families this year although strips all of their clothes off 🙈 I didn't realise u need to buy all of the furniture for the houses. Smyth's currently has one of the houses on special £35 down from £70 x

Yeah I thought the pieces of houses seemed to gd to be true!

@Hereforit2022 Oh my girls do that with their barbies, I hope they don't do it with these 🤞🏻

@FTM2022SS thank you. That's ideal something that comes with some furniture and let's see how she goes. Going to get a few other wee sets to go with it. She was looking at the panda family and they were very cute also she'd love the set with the 3 babies and accessories. Can see how much she plays with them and if she likes them can get her some more for Christmas.

Thanks everyone 😄

Tescos have a cottage on sale for £35 which I saw in the shop earlier! I'm not sure if it has furniture but it was half price so a great deal.

I loved Sylvanian Families when I was little and played with them for years. Bear in mind that if you have family and friends who also buy for her at Christmas & Birthdays you could ask them to buy add-ons, some of them are relatively cheap.

@TheTeddyBears why don't you look at buying from eBay, it is expensive new & they're not very robust, so easily broken by 3 year olds. You could put it in a nicely wrapped box and she'll get much more for the money.

I really hope my DD grows to love Sylvanian as much as I did as a child!
I remember looking around ToysRUs and picking out all the new sets and mum having a breakdown at the cost of it all!
It is all still in the loft at DM's house so im crossing fingers that it is all in decent condition.

Sadly most of the larger sets like the treehouse, windmill and whatever dont come with furniture now. They used to come with the basics and you could add it it. I remember getting the mansion and asking for a toilet that made flushing noises!
You can pick up loads of sets from ebay at really good prices now though.
It does retain it value so is actually a reasonable investment!
