Would should I get for 10th birthday?

My son will be 10.
It's between:
A console (he doesn't have one- this would probably be his choice) but he does have opportunities to use one, just not at home. So he's in the loop with chat with friends but I don't have the arguments about screen time.

A chromebook
My choice but obviously I want to get something he wants.
I want to encourage him to be independent with his studies. Could he perhaps use this to play some actually fun games??
Like Minecraft or roblox?

No version of Minecraft has ever been created for Chromebook. To get around it, you’d have to install the version of Minecraft for Linux on your Chromebook by setting up Linux and installing the Debian/Ubuntu Minecraft file there. It’s doable, but not straightforward. Roblox is fine. If you go down this route, however, you’re still going to end up with arguments about screen time. I’d get him the console.
