2 year old DS birthday presents

Hi all!

I'm looking for some recommendations for good toys for a 2 year old boy?

My DS and DD both have birthdays in July and my partner has been out of work for a couple of months so will just get his first pay in time for their birthdays and haven't really had time to save, so my budget isn't huge.

Any ideas would be appreciated

The batman or superhero Duplo sets have gone down well with the wee boys I know. As it's summer some outdoor stuff could be fun too- a ball and goals or a paddling pool maybe?

Depends what he's into really. The imaginext stuff is robust and goes down well with my ds. We also loved duplo at that age and sets like the zoo safari and mix and match cars look fun too.

By far the toy with the best longevity has been octonauts for ds though. He still plays with them now at 5yo and we picked up most of it as a bundle second hand.

Brio or similar wooden train sets. My DS (and his friends) still loves his at 4.5.

My DS (3.3) got this for his third birthday and it gets played with every day!

Misty9 I've never seen the Imaginext stuff but just had a nosey and they look great. I'll have a look at Octonauts too because he likes them.

EuroWin1 I was thinking of a train set because he adores them. I'll take a look!

If you have a garden, how about a little sandpit with buckets, spade and watering can. My two DCs have hours of fun with a watering can.

For inside, a wooden railway set is probably the most played with toy we've ever had. My 6 yr old still likes building and playing with it. Brio is expensive, but the cheaper sets (Try IKEA or Bigjigs) are exactly the same size so you don't have to spend a fortune on Brio. A starter set might be £20 and you can slowly add on extra bits if he really likes it.

Enidblyton1 yes we're desperate for more outdoor toys! Sand pit is a good idea, especially the watering can.

I have just checked IKEAs website and never have I noticed their train sets! We have an IKEA toy kitchen here (gets played with every day) but doesn't have the utensils yet so I'll add them to my list when I go and get the train sets. Thanks so much!

Ds1 will be 2 in July. He has a sand/water table already and loves it.

I'm getting him a bubble blowing lawnmower as he loves to push things, and loves bubbles. Bubble wand for a couple of pounds too as a cheap extra. Probably a couple of big toy trucks for outside.

A friend gave me a duplo train set, which is going to be cleaned and wrapped for him. He doesn't know its a freebie second hand.

Dd got the whale.bubble machine for her 3rd birthday recently and that's entertaining both dc for ages in the garden. If he likes octonauts then I'd definitely get some of the toys. Ds is about to get the slimy octopod as a reward for good behaviour tomorrow (he's been collecting stickers on a reward chart for a couple of weeks) which looks quite fun. There are always loads of bundles around on ebay etc and the toys really last.

We got dd a sandpit for her 3rd birthday. She likes creating a beach on the whole patio...

Nottalotta I'm glad to hear he has a lot of fun with the table! I think that'll be one of his presents.

We have soooo many bubble blowing things! You can never go wrong with them. A bubble blowing lawn mower sounds super fun too.

Duplo stuff is fab. I have a lot of toys passed down from friends and if there in good enough condition I'll do the exact same! They are all so expensive nowadays

Octonauts and Paw Patrol is what DS loves, so many different toys for them both, so many decisions!

Why go to the beach when she can bring the beach to you?!

We also got some vintage metal Tonka toys off eBay - they're pretty indestructible and can be used indoors or out, and they have moveable bits (we have the rubbish truck, the bulldozer and the tipper truck).

Happyland (you can get 2nd had or sometimes they have offers at ELC)
An easel from IKEA with some chalks
Little gardening set - you could make a kit up yourself
Paddling pool to share
Zoo pass or something similar
Footie goals and a ball
Set of books from the book people
A box with some art/craft stuff in
Orchard Toys games - good for counting etc..

Scuttlebug, my now 3yo got one for his 2nd birthday and still uses it.

We've got the Tonka dumper and digger for the garden and they are still played with now. Pretty bulky to store though.

I bet, they look pretty big. Running out of space for toys, I'll have to do a big clear out before July. The charity shop love me haha
