Nerf Guns

DS auntie asked what he would like for Xmas. I emailed her with a Nerf Gun link, and had an answer saying that she knows he wants one but she won't buy one, and suggested other stuff. She has daughters, I'm wondering whether she had a son she would still think like this? Are Nerf Guns really that bad? At 9 they are just trying to hit each other and not thinking of anything else!
