xbox one - please help

I have given in and am buying the kids an xbox one for Christmas but I'm a bit baffled. What is kinect and do I need it (or rather do they need it)...they are 10 and 11.

What memory should I get - 500mb or 1TB? Does it matter if the bundle comes with a downloadable game or is it better to get the physical game separately? Please help as it will be a very expensive mistake if I get this wrong (it will be expensive even if I get it right....!)

Kinect is a camera system. It allows you to control the Xbox One using your voice, and it means it recognises players and will sign them in automatically. You can get fun games that use the Kinect, like dance games and games that replicate tennis etc - a bit like the Wii, but much better. You do need space around the Xbox for it to work, though.

500GB will be fine for kids. 1TB is huge, kids games will never fill that. I've had a 1TB for 7 months and have a lot of downloaded games on it, and save files, and it's still only 25% used. Downloadable games take up more space, but you'll still fit loads on 500GB. It doesn't really matter if you get the downloadable game or the physical one, other than that you can't trade in downloadable games if they get bored of them.

Do you know what games they'll like? Something like Minecraft and a 250/500GB Xbox One will probably be popular.

Top tip - don't leave it till 10pm on Christmas Eve to get it out of the box and set it up, it does take a while to set up the accounts, get familiar with it, make various downloads etc (even with games on discs).

I treated us to one of these last Xmas and husband bought me the Kinect to go with it for my birthday (hooray for adult gamers!)

If you have the space in your living room definitely get the Kinect, it will be a treat to watch them bouncing around like loons! Also, if you use the system as a blue ray player, or use Netflix etc through it, you can use voice commands instead of a remote control (this is a lifesaver for me at 30 weeks pg when I have forgotten to pick up the remote before getting comfortable )
