What age for "proper" playmobil?

DS is only 2, so I thought he'd be a bit young. However, my SIL was having a clear out and gave him an old set (landrover with horsebox) and he absolutely adores it. He really likes the detail and spends hours putting the woman on the horse, "riding" around, loading the horse into the horsebox etc.

On the back of that we picked up a couple of second hand playmobil 1-2-3 bits but he's not interested. They don't really do anything I suppose!

Would playmobil be OK if I was careful with the sets I picked and put the really tiny bits away until he's older? And can anybody recommend any sets?

My son got a couple 123 Playmobil toys for Christmas 2013 (he was 2), the rocket and bus. Neither of them have any tiny bits that get lost in the space of 5 minutes so they've stayed intact. He likes putting the people in the bus and the bags that go in the side.

This Christmas though he got the Playmobil fire engine. That had a load of stickers to put on, little bits to connect other little bits and the small gloves and bits off the helmets. Most of it has been put away for later and some of it has been lost or binned because they're ridiculously small. But he loves fire engines! He plays mostly with the fire engine itself with the people. I guess the good thing about Playmobil is that everything comes away so it doesn't break.
I shy away from toys that have fiddly bits because I know they'll just end up lost or in a different toy box that will never be reunited with it's original toy again (unless I sort his toys out for the 304th time in a year!).

I don't know whether you could super glue the connector bits and have the reasonable sized removable parts free?

Thanks Lonz. We bought him the Playmobil 1-2-3 truck & Garage set, and the farmer & tractor. He's not been remotely interested in the truck and garage, and the farmer has had a little use but not much. The horse box set was given to us second hand - already assembled and there weren't many little bits - perhaps they had already been lost by the previous owner? There were certainly no gloves or anything! I can't imagine how fiddly that would be.

Thanks for the info - I might keep an eye out for some sets that don't look to fiddly!

My DD had a set at 2, she wasn't the kind of child to put things in her mouth and she really loved it. We didn't use all the small bits but I think I did put the flowers on and her favourite bit was a baby, which was quite small itself.

Thanks apple - DS is very similar and doesn't put stuff in his mouth.

We got the camping set for dd aged two. She handled it well, and now at three she also has the car, the pool and the vets. She doesnt show any interest in thw vets but loves the other.

The car in particular is very robust.
