What age do little girls stop believing in fairies?

I've seen a really cool present for a family of little girls but it involves them all still believing in fairies... around what age do you think little girls would find this too 'childish'?

I don't think all little girls believe in fairies Confused

All the kids I know have a concrete understanding of what is a real animal and what is a mythical creature.

Twickersmum76 · 29/12/2014 14:15

Wow - what a shame - where's the magic of make believe gone? I remember loving making up stories about the fairies at the end of the garden when I was little.

Mine are 9&7 and still believe in fairies!

jamtoast12 - you've restored my faith! Thanks Smile

Er no, I never believed either. My dd's never seemed to. Fairies are a bit outdated I think

Please tell me it's not one of those fairy door things off eBay?

Twickersmum76 · 29/12/2014 15:13

nope - it's a fairy garden growing kit so the kids get their own bit of the garden. Figured it was something all of them could get involved in. It's between that and a design your own kite at the moment... then I'm officially out of ideas until next year Confused

My dd is 10 and totally believes in fairies

jamtoast12 · 29/12/2014 15:30

I've seen those fairy gardens on amazon and in john lewis....they're lovely!

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 29/12/2014 15:55

Maybe around 5-6?

PlumpingUpPartridge · 29/12/2014 15:58

Same age as little boys....

toffeelolly · 02/01/2015 15:46

My dd is 8 and still believes in fairies.

lunar1 · 02/01/2015 15:52

8 year 7 months and 23 days. That's for all girls of course, boys are all to busy playing football to have believed in fairies in the first place.

FaeMcWha · 03/09/2017 16:08

Im 90 and I still believe in faeries, why wouldn't I, where has your magic gone.?

3EyedRaven · 03/09/2017 16:09

Are you trying to tell me fairies aren't real?

Hulababy · 03/09/2017 16:12

Even if they don't actually believe they're real many children like imaginative play throughout primary. Even when they start to think they are getting a bit too old for such play, many still actually like it still anyway.

To be fair to the OP she was no doubt only mentioning girls because the family she is talking about it little girls. Don't think she was necessarily saying only girls can believe and not boys!

Hulababy · 03/09/2017 16:13

As an aside, what is the difference between fairies and faeries? Ive seen both used but not sure if they are the same of different.

Coloursthatweremyjoy · 03/09/2017 16:13

I'm sure the OP only asked about girls because she is buying for girls not because "boys don't do fairies".

Anyway my boys were around 9 I suppose but would believe now if a good activity was on offer (or cash).

Mrsfrumble · 03/09/2017 16:14

Why are people being mean? Okay, so perhaps the OP could have referred to "children" instead of "girls" - I know little boys who definitely believe - but how is believing in fairies any different to believing in Santa?
DD is nearly 5 and is a believer. DS stopped at about 5. Fairy gardens are lovely regardless of whether the children believe.

BenLui · 03/09/2017 16:17

My DC don't believe in fairies but they'd still like a fairy garden kit.

My DH always leaves a "fairy circle" in the grass when he cuts it. Grin

StinkPickle · 03/09/2017 16:18

Same age as little boys I'm sure Hmm

My son is 6 and still believes in Santa and fairies.

Lottey90 · 03/09/2017 16:19

Faries are real... show me proof they don't exist 😒

AmysTiara · 03/09/2017 16:20

I don't remember ever believing in fairies but i would have enjoyed a present like that.

Hulababy · 03/09/2017 16:21

DD is 15 and we have a fairy door in the garden. DD put it there. :)
