Hard surface for moving toys

I bought DS a Bright Starts Count & Roll Buggie but it won't work on carpet. I've tried it on the oilcloth I put under his highchair and it works fine on there but DS grabs the cloth and it gets all rucked up.
Any ideas on a hard surface I can buy for moving toys as I'm guessing this could be the first of many things that won't work on carpet.
I thought about those foam puzzle pieces but they all seem to be bumpy so don't know if this would be a problem for the wheels?
