Hi found him a sweet book with his own name in and its about a boy and his construction set! So I am looking for a set under a tenner, not Lego!

Has he already got plenty of Lego then?

Occasionally you can find stuff in charity shops or jumble sales, but the only other worthwhile one I think is Meccano, and the original Meccano if you can find it. There are web sites devoted to Meccano sales, but pretty expensive I guess.

There is some Swiss magnetic outfits, we had some in school I worked in.

Also a versatile set of plastic gear wheels that you could assemble in various ways, but it didn't really make models as such.

Some people like Knex, but I have never been keen on that personally.

Thank you, yes he and his twin sister have a lot of lego and I wouldn`t know which sets they have so better lay safe and find something else!

We got ds the wooden meccano. He absolutely loved it and still uses it now at 8. It isn't cheap but it was worth every single penny. The plastic meccano generally sucks and the real thing is dear and hard to find. The wooden stuff is great!
