Birthday present for six year old boys - please

My ds birthday is coming up and can't think of what is a good toy for him apart from Lego and playmobil and books which he has got quite a lot of.
I always feel that I am one step behind of what boys that age play with, and he is not very forthcoming about what he likes...his aunt and uncle have asked what he might like and the uncle suggested Beyblade for example. I have no idea of what this is. Nor Bakugan....
Please, any one with older kids that could give some suggestions and inspiration?

I have a nearly five year old with very similar likes from the sounds of it.

Is there anything big your DS would like such as a scooter?

I think there may be a junior scalextric if he might like that kind of thing?

I think we are getting him a micralite scooter, next one up. but it would be nice to get a few small things for him to open. also, have to give suggestions to aunt and uncle and their budget is max 15 quid. but any suggestions would be good, i like him to have a good selection of toys but not too many if that makes sense..

I got DS (6yo) a subscription to Kids National Geographic, even though he's not reading, he loves getting the post and looking through the pictures, we read the articles to him.

He is also into Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, there are quite a few figures in Toys R Us, and he likes dressing up costumes. He has knights, superhero capes, and have recently got him a cowboy outfit.

There's nothing wrong with Lego and Playmobil, they're both great toys although he'll probably go on playing with the Lego when he's older. Both wicked uncle and Stripy Dino (if you're on a budget) have good lists of toys for 6 year old boys.
