need some scooter help ...

Hi, I am moving to London this summer with my 6 & 8 year old sons. When we visited last month, my boys loved seeing kids on scooters so they are dying to get scooters for the move. I must confess, I know nothing about scooters and don't want to make a mistake and have the boys be a laughingstock because of my ignorance. Please help!

Do 6& 8 year boys still ride scooters or have most London kids grown out of them by that age? What brands or types are 'cool'? do kids wear helmets when they scoot? do kids ride scooters to school? are there places where scooters are not advised?

Thanks for helping a naive American mom that doesn't want to make any missteps before we even arrive ...!

Don't know about London but my 8 year old and all his friends ride scooters when playing out etc, I would go for a stunt type scooter, my ds has a slamm one, I think Mgp? Ones are good too, my ds had cheaper ones and they didn't last at all, he's had of the slamm ones nearly 3 years and its still going strong.
