My dd really wants one for Christmas I have put my foot down until now she's almost 6. I don't mind Barbie apart from she looks a bit tarty. I can see the fun and enjoyment (I think) that my dd will get from Barbie but I just wondered if there was a doll on the market like Barbie with spare clothes etc that just doesn't look so Hollywood slut. Thanks as I never liked dolls as a child I had match box cars so this is a new area for me. :o

I also don't like them, but to be honest, me and my dds play with them like other dolls, play families and school games and stuff, what she looks like is a bit incidental.
I haven't found a good alternative, but some shops have a toddler/little girl looking type dolls of different sizes in their baby doll section. Some of those might fill the need. But if she really wants Barbie, she probably wants what her friends have.

Had to go down the Barbie road too. However there are non- tarty Barbies available just got to search them out. There are also Disney princess and fairy (Tinkerbell) dolls which are more acceptable and still very exciting so a little girl. My dd who is 4 was over the moon to receive Tinkerbell and Rapunzel for her birthday, embrace the pink glitterGrin

Thanks I have bought a paleontology Barbie off of amazon, it took some searching for but at least she has a good career and clearly some academic qualifications :o

My other favourites were ballerina Barbie but they were sold out on John Lewis and whilst in Tk Maxx I learnt Barbies are just plastic dolls to my dd but its bought now so a bit closer to finishing the Christmas shop so I am happy and am slowly starting to embrace the pink glitter lol. :o

Architect Barbie also looks like a good career choice. Dentist/ doctor/ vet/ nurse Barbies not so good- short skirts and tight trousers are not appropriate in the caring professions.
