So she wants 4 stones.

Feel I ought to get her something else.

Apart from 1 aunt, she won't get any other presents other than what I buy her.

I had thought of a sandpit, dh not keen due to mess and sand in house.

She does love horses and our local doctors surgery has 3 horses (2 just sit on things, and one which is like an antique carousel horse but it doesn't move).

I think she'd like a rocking horse. There seems to be 2 main types, one on a wooden bowed frame, and one on metal hinges. The latter is what I had in mind, but seems to be from age 6 and she'll only be 4. Could a smaller kid still manage it, or do I need to stick to the smaller and less wow factor one on wooden arches.

Or is rocking horse crap idea. in which case, what do I get a 4 yr old girl?

Come on please, someone must ave (had) a 4 year old dd ( and/or rocking horse). Ideas for a 4 yr old not very girly girl appreciated. I can do boys toys easy. Dd is harder.

I'd just get her the stones and save your penny's! :)

I can't really help you with the rocking horse but I can say that I really don't find that our sandpit makes that much mess. It certainaly never finds its way into the house.

For DD's 4th birthday (last year) she had a bike, a Build a bear rabbit from her sister. Both are played with often and I asked everyone else to buy her a dressing up costume to make up a dress up kit and that gets played with probably every other weekend.

FuckerSnailInYourHedgerow · 31/05/2012 22:57

Some nice colouring pencils/markers notepads? I alays find they go down well. If she likes messy stuff, why not a sandpit? Or do you have no outdoor space?

Stones as a birthday present is hilarous, she sounds like a lovely wee thing:)

well years ago we had a sandpit when ds 1 & 2 were little and the house was constantly full of sand. As she's the last dc, dh now seems to think buying stuff for her is a waste of money, not quite that bad but along those lines, so she'll be 4, how much would she use it. He's got a problem with buying big stuff that take up loads of room. We do have outside space enough for one though.

Dress up stuff an idea, ds3 was always into that, can't say dd has ever shown a dressing up urge, maybe she just needs a push. SHe loves painting. She paints stones. Everybody got a painted stone for Christmas. daddy got one for his birthday. Our garden is awash with brightly coloured (and lots of the murky coloured) painted stones.

Shite, I am so tired today but I guess I'm going to have to go out shopping, aren't i?

Plant pots to paint? Or you can get garden ornaments too. this type of thing you can get garden gnomes etc. Dobbies do them too.

giraffesCantFitInThePalace · 01/06/2012 07:26

Summer clothes? She would need them anyway and its something else to unwrap.

ErnesttheBavarian · 01/06/2012 08:47

she would love that garden ornament to paint. would be absolutely perfect - a notch up from stones! I've not seen anything like that here though. WOuld be perfect though. wonder if i could get similar?

One of dd1's best presents ever was a shoebox full of big round stones, some paints, googly eyes, glitter and bits and pieces to decorate the stones. Kept her happy for ages. We still have the results on the kitchen windowsill.

ZZZenAgain · 01/06/2012 08:54

scooter, bike, trampoline. Think dd got a scooter for her 4th birthday.

ZZZenAgain · 01/06/2012 08:57

and something like this:
sparkly things to make and do

AdventuresWithVoles · 01/06/2012 09:06

Get her a Mancala set! This one has lovely stones AND it's a great game easy for even a 4yo to play. There are nicer versions, even (nicer stones).

ErnesttheBavarian · 01/06/2012 09:13

I've seen one before but had no idea it was even a game. what is a Macala set (briefly) what do you do?

OP posts:
ErnesttheBavarian · 01/06/2012 09:13

sorry, Mancala.

off shopping now

Saw a lovely paint your own Russian doll (huge) in magma if she loves painting.
Was quite covetous myself

HeathRobinson · 01/06/2012 09:19

I'd still go with the sandpit - fab idea. Ime it doesn't get that much in the house and it's a great outdoor toy for summer. You could get some interesting stones to go with it.

It seems a shame that she's not allowed one while her brothers had one.

Re the rocking horse, another lovely idea. We had one for our dcs and it got a lot of use. Something to remember for her 6th birthday, perhaps? It's a great 'active' indoor toy when it's raining.

ErnesttheBavarian · 01/06/2012 09:41

heath, was your horse on wooden rockers, or with the metal swing mechanism? Heading into town now. right now. honest.

gotta go now as dh away so this is the only dd free time before her birthday

OP posts:
HeathRobinson · 01/06/2012 09:43

Ours was wooden.

AdventuresWithVoles · 01/06/2012 13:00

Mancala is a deceptively simple game (very simple rules, they'll be on the box or online), quite addictive.

ErnesttheBavarian · 01/06/2012 23:06

Well, in case anyone is interested i bought her a sandpit (plys sand!) with some buckets/ sand moulds/ accessories.

Couldn't find a toy shop, so she will then get some of her brothers' old toys wrapped up.

Rocking horse for Christmas.

Thanks for ideas.

Annoying iPad is losing links, but have a look at the Haba dolls horsey range. Very pricey but very cute.

Horse but there's also a stable and a show jump set.
