How do you play with Hex Bug Nano? Don't understand!!

DS has been begging for hex bugs as a boy at school talks about them. I found the hexbug nano bridge battle set www.toysrus.co.uk/Toys-R-Us/Toys/Action-Figures-and-Playsets/Hexbug-Nano-Bridge-Battle-Set(0086212) half price and I have built it. Do you just turn the nano bugs on and they fight?! Am I missing something?

DS 6 loves them and got a big set at christmas.

Yes they go round and round their little area
and when they meet, they just try to get around them as they would any obstacle.

I got more in argos when they were half price
