Transformers: which ones and what's the difference?

My ds1 who will be 5 in April has asked for a transformer for his birthday, I thought that was easy enough but looking on Argos there are three different types and I have no idea which is more suitable. The trouble is that he doesn't really know what he wants as it's something he's picked up from school so I am hoping to go with the best quality/longest lastin but also easiest to transform. The three they have in Argos are MechTech, Cyberverse and KREO, any help would be appreciated!

I had a look and they all look the same, most likely they were all released for the different films which is why they have different names. However i could be completly wrong as the names of them and the films are different.

Right, from recent research... Kreo are like Lego, you have to build them so they don't transform as such, just come apart and can be rebuilt as robot, car, etc. The other names refer to transformers from the different films. Some are designed for younger kids and are simPler to transform - toysrus had info on this iirc.

But mostly The newer ones are as fragile as a moth's wing, although they do click back together. Older ones (eBay?) are made of sturdier plastic. Also seen new range of RescueBots - chunkier and not as violent-looking. And DVDs of old 90s cartoons good too.

How have I ended up knowing all this about a toy?
