Wii driving game

DH wants a driving game for him and DS (5) but I completely confused by all the different games and steering wheels etc. Can someone explain it and tell be what I need.

Mario cart is very popular and think the new cars 2 wii game meant to be good (similar to mario cart I think).

Might get for DS, quite like the idea of having Mater as my racer and there's meant to be a Maters backward racing game course on it which sounds fun

Do you have 2 controllers? Its better if they can race each other, so if you do get 2 wii wheels (gamestation good value for these type of things)

We quite like the Colin McRae rally games, they have lots of courses too.
