Beyblades for a 5 year old?

I knwo they say from 8 but DS has been watching the older boys playing with them at school and he is desperate for Santa to bring him some, has anyone else got them for a similair age and is it easy enough to figure out?

Also what do I need for starting up with them?

My 5 yr old has one. Can use it no probs. I also got him a plastic stadium thing he spins them in. Got it all when it was on offer in Tesco a couple of months ago.
