Good gifts for 8 and 4 yr old girls?

I'd like to buy small presents for some daughters of close family friends but have no idea what to get older girls. They are not English speaking so books are out and am too intimidated re clothes as they are a v stylish family! Would anyone be able to make any suggestions? Many thanks

Hair accessories, pencil case & pens, small notebook, kids' jewellery (from somewhere like Claire's Accessories), 'makeup bag' type of cosmetic bag (for the 8 year old - again, Claire's do some lovely ones), lip gloss.

Paperchase do have a nice range of stationery and other stuff for young girls too.
