Which micro scooter for a 5 year old?

Apologies if this has been done to death. DS has a scooter which is falling to bits so we thought it would be nice to get him one for his birthday. however not sure if it is the maxi micro or the mini micro that we need.
The maxi micro will do him for a long time but is twice the price of the mini. Which one for an average sized 4 year old ?

Thanks

i am interested too!
i have a nearly 6 year old and i am not sure if to get one with 3 wheels or 2... don't want the other children to laugh at him

DS had a mini for his 5th birthday, and then the maxi for his 6th. He is one of the smallest in his year at school. We noticed that although a lot of the children in his year had minis in YR R, none were really still using them by YR 1. DD who is just 5 and in YR R still has a mini, but we will upgrade to a Maxi, probably at Christmas.

A friend's son who is 4.4 manages a Maxi perfectly well.

The 3 wheel ones don't seem to go as fast as the 2 wheeled ones, which most. of DS's friends have, I like this fact, but DS sometimes gets frustrated that he can't keep up. No one has ever laughed at him as far as I know, quite a few Maxis at school.

Thanks ogre and bran. I wondered about the ones with the joystick, does your DS find it ok to use bran ?
