Sledges?

Which is better, plastic or wooden?

We are thinking of getting a sledge for the DSs to share (age 3 and 7) - or is it better to buy two cheaper ones?
What about helmets?

Thanks!!

can i add to this, where do you buy sledges? i have never seen on in a shop

I got one from Argos for £9.99. It is for my 4 year old.

I don't think it would fit 2 on.

Thanks... I was actually thinking of them taking turns rather than going on it together!

Plastic is light and won't give you a concussion if it hits you or anyone else's child. Mine have always refused to wear helmets, but I've seen children with bicycle helmets, hats underneath.

I would get one for each -- DCs get cold and grumpy standing around waiting for their turn. The saucer kind are fab, very fast, but the longer ones are nice too.

As a child we used a rubber dinghy. I've seen inner tubes too.

Saw some in Blacks today, and also several local garden centres round here.

Cheap sledges here

We got one of these in Smyth's last week, but I think they were an opportunistic thing because they weren't on the website. It fits an adult + 3-year-old, just about, but I'd get two for races etc. It's not massively sturdy though, and when we took our DS out sledging we encounterd two broken and abandoned plastic sledges of different designs, so a proper wooden toboggan might be a better investment if you think it'll get a lot of use.
