Technic lego for 6 year old

DH wants to buy for nephew's 6th birthday next week, but I'm worried it'd be too advanced. Any advice appreciated.

It is quite fiddly and has lots of small part but maybe he could do some of the simpler sets with help. He might prefer a City vehicle which he could do more independently and play along with other Lego though.
