We would like to buy our DD (nearly 8) and DS (5) a nintendo ds each for Christmas. I thought a DSi for 8 year old and a DSLite for the younger child would be appropriate (both on offer in Toys R us at the moment)
However, we don't really know much about these consoles- is the DSLite out of date now? Can you still get young child's games for them? and do they have a dodgy hinge which will easily break in the hands of a little boy?
I would be very grateful for any advice!

DSLite not out of date.
5yo is pretty young, my 5yo boys would have broken it. I wouldn't say the hinge was particularly dodgy, it's just sensitive electronics overall.
I am pretty sure that DSi is Internet enabled, do you want your boys getting unfettered Internet access if they wander into an open WiFi area?

You can set parental controls easily. DD has the DSi and loves the camera, it was worth the difference to us for that. She's 7 tho'

dont know much about the camera one, my dds both have the lite one and they have def been worth there weight in gold especially on car journeys or waiting rooms,

If i had to chose for you i would get them both the same just a different colour. Because the difference- one camer one without would cause a row between my 2!!!
