What would an eight year old boy like?

Have to buy birthday present for our ( soon to be ) eight year old nephew who we never see.... haven't a clue what he likes and his parents won't help

I have 4 DSs and they have always liked Lego. You just can't go wrong with it. I could still get my 17 year old Lego and he'd be happy. And the sets come in all sorts of price ranges too.
