I’m Stressed DH ate from a display jar at nandos

I know it’s stupid. Went to Nando’s. DH ordered regular chips instead of peri ones - he gets up and comes back with a massive jar of what looks like peri seasoning and proceeds to add it and eat chips. End of the meal I realise it’s odd the jar has no markings on it , ask him where it came from and it was from the top shelf where all the display stuff is! Nando’s worker comes over and confirms it’s not for use and gives him new chips but a bit late by then as he’s eaten loads of it. Nando’s worker couldn’t confirm what was in the jar but sort of shrugs and says it’s probably just really old seasoning ? DH said it did taste ‘off’ but he was hungry.
DH thinks it’s funny and we leave but I have health anxiety and I’m now worried ! Should I have at least pushed for them to check what was in the display jar ?!? Teen daughter ate a couple of the chips too but isn’t worried - I am ! Please be gentle 😂

Does your husband normally act like a 14 year old lad? If he spends the night vomiting it will serve him right.

I remember some game show on telly, years back, where one of the contestants was famous for taking a fake bread roll off a display, buttering it, and eating it.

It does say a lot about the quality of the bread he was used to consuming that he didn't notice!

I once ate a display at an airport, it was actually made of I think plastic. I lived to tell the tale. I thought it was complimentary food but it was a display.

You could try contacting Nando’s HQ on social media, e.g. posting a question on X. They might be able to find out what was likely to have been in the jar.

Once we went out for food at a nice restaurant. There was a bowl of what we thought was some kind of hard grains or something I don’t know. We kept picking at it. The waiter came and said I’ll just take that for you. We were like have we just been eating a decoration and went home worrying we were going to be sick 🤣

This made me laugh as well as other people did. Like others have said it is just out of date spices most likely. Sadly it is his own fault if he does get ill in which case he won't be doing that in a hurry again. I don't know many people who would do this so you will have to wait and see if he has a bad reaction .Sorry that I am not sympathetic.. I imagine he will be ok. Maybe it will teach him a lesson.

This thread has reminded me of the one from ages ago where the OP's DH had eaten a fat ball that she'd made to feed birds and left in the fridge. He survived and your DH will too, OP!
