Does anyone else feel low and unsettled at weekends?

I love Friday nights, movie night, tea and then knowing I don't have to get up in the morning...,.and then come Saturday morning there's just this sense of melancholy for the weekend, until I'm back into routine for the week. Does anyone else get this? We can have plans and do things etc but it never feels the same as during the week does, there's always a weird sense of not quite doom but not motivated/happy etc.

I kind of get what you mean. For me Friday night is the peak and Saturday onwards are just feel like you’re waiting for the week to start again.

I look forward to the weekend all week but then miss the routine of during the week.

You’re still in school dread mode.

Beware: the Heartbeat theme tune can be a major trigger!

Absolutely. Just read this out to my partner and he said it's me.

My partner works away so I look forward to the weekends when he's home but then it's always abit... Flat. I keep busy through the week and love my routine but... I seem to just shut down a bit at the weekends even though we do things that I look forward to. Maybe there's something in it, I've read that people can't relax on a Sunday as they know Monday is round the corner...

I think I look forward to weekends so much that they maybe feel disappointing when they get here?! I can't pinpoint what causes it but I think I know what you mean. Same with Christmas in a way, I love the build up but come the day, it doesn't feel as exciting/fulfilling as I expect 😅

Yes. I get this this too.

OldWallpaper · Yesterday 21:33

Yep, I get that too. Spend the whole working week looking forward to the weekend and having two days off - but, like you, I usually go into a slump late Saturday morning 🫩

Yes I definitely feel like this, also feel the same at Christmas. I don’t know how to shake it off.

Im low and unsettled yes. Furthermore I don’t feel much better mon to fri. Always waiting for another day to bring another feeling.
and for me autumn and darkness makes it much worse.
and I don’t mean to go on a tangent. I do relate to the feeling you describe at weekends.

Its the Antiques Roadshow theme tune for me. Ughhhhhhhh. Sunday teatime and the school dread in the 90s

I get this too. I think the routine I have during the week is good for my mental state, but then I struggle over the weekends when that routine doesn’t happen even though I’m free to do what ever I like. I do things and can have fun, but something feels off. Tried to create a sort of weekend routine to see if that helped but it didn’t really.

I’ve also experienced the same thing around Christmas, mainly over the last few years. I used to really enjoy it now it’s just something to get through (I still try to put the effort in for everyone else though).

Now you've put it on here, yeah i feel this too. I used to live for the dopamine hit of weekends and holidays. Now they're all a bit meh. I just think it's me being a miserable cow and living the consequence of bad choices tho!

BunkBedsArePeopleShelves · Today 04:06

Do you not make weekend plans though?

Marymanna · Today 06:31

I find this if I don't plan my days. For me its the feeling of needing to make the most of the time and then that nagging feeling that I should be doing something different/better.

I find if I plan an activity for the morning, like an exercise class or a walk, and then maybe schedule in an hour of reading/playing piano/doing housework and then, go out for coffee, then come home and flop in front of the TV before making dinner, I feel like i have achieved what I set out to do and am not hanging around thinking I should be doing something else.

Im not wedded ti the plan and can changebit and be flexible but just having a kind of schedule for the day makes me feel a lot more settled. And can then enjoy my down time feeling like I have earned it.

dontforgettofloss · Today 07:38

I get this too, I try to make Sunday a bit special by cooking something really nice for dinner (usually a roast)

SlB09 · Today 09:25

@BunkBedsArePeopleShelves yes, most often have plans, but even with plans I just wake up feeling just abit flat and meh, even a bit anxious sometimes. I think the routine of during the week and almost knowing that life for others is organised somehow with work etc gives respite from that feeling. I think I'm someone who probably just needs routine but doesn't want to admit I'm that person!
