Is this a terrible idea?

Think it probably is, and I’m mainly hoping writing it out will help me put it behind me but I’m probably in need of a shake back to my senses (although gently please)

I’m having an all round terrible night emotionally and made the mistake of looking up my ex on facebook.
He’s my child’s father but we split when I was pregnant and haven’t seen each other since. He hasn’t met our daughter but I do see his parents fairly regularly so they can see their grandchild and I get on well with them.
From what his parents have said he seems to have come close to asking to see our daughter/ has had periods of wanting to build a relationship but nothing has ever come of it. I obviously have only heard it from his parents so there could well be an element of him only saying this to appease his parents or of wishful thinking on his parents behalf but he does have quite severe anxiety so I can imagine he would actually want it but overthinking and manage to talk himself out of it.

All of that backstory is to say that I’ve been sitting debating with myself whether to send him a friend request as a kind of olive branch to see if anything comes of it?
I think if I didn’t have contact with his parents I would just do it as the worst that would happen in that case is him blocking me really but I worry that if in the circumstances if it does go wrong his parents will think I was trying to cause problems or stir the pot or something

Yes, terrible idea. If you invite him into your lives, he will undoubtedly let your daughter down.

If he decides he wants to be a father, then he can do it off his own back and be the one to contact you.

Ohgodno!

Dont open up yourself, it will end terribly

I wouldn't do it your child will end up disappointed by him
Does he at least pay any maintenance to you?

Terrible idea. He hasn't wanted to make contact enough to do anything about it, so chances are his heart isn't in it and he will only upset and confuse your daughter. If he ever asks you directly, and makes a plan for a slow introduction to his child, you might consider it.

Don’t do it.

If he wanted to be a father he would be.
