It’s so rubbish being tall :(

I bought a tracksuit in Primark today from the new Coleen Rooney range. Lovely navy colour, stunning. I only planned to buy the tracksuit top but the trousers were so nice I decided to just buy them too.

I don’t know why I did this - I don’t know what I was thinking. Primark bottoms do not fit me. I am 5ft 11 with an inside leg of 38. They were halfway up my calves.

I get all my bottom halves from Next Tall, Long Tall Sally, ASOS Tall or M&S. But they all cost a fortune! An absolute fortune!

I think I’m just envious of girls who can walk into stores like H&M, Primark, even supermarkets and pick up beautiful trousers/jeans/tracksuits and it not cost the earth.

I’m annoyed with myself for buying the trousers today. I guess I just wanted to feel “normal.” I’ll be returning them tomorrow :(

Don’t feel down about it, Primark is just really general, I’m petite, and stuff that tends to fit me just fine, but other stores can be a nightmare, often because the petite stuff is far too short, but the regular stuff is sometimes a little too long. Not fitting into stuff is just a common thing! You’ll find your brand. 😊

IwanttoWFH · 20/08/2026 20:23

I’m 5ft 2 and can’t buy trousers in Primark as they’re too long! I think you need to be 5ft 5 - 5ft 6 for trousers to actually be the right length!

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 20/08/2026 20:25

Yes I remember being so jealous of my sisters who were both around 5'5 and could walk into any shop and buy anything they wanted. Whereas I am only just over 5 ft so could buy virtually nothing.

I agree.
I'm 5'2"
M & S used to have a Short Length but I can't find any of the trousers these days.
I get used to shortening all my clothes but it's still a pain.

Boodahh · 20/08/2026 20:27

I'm short with short legs and struggle massively to find trousers that fit.
Get the stuff that fits on vinted or ebay if you want it cheaper.

Pigginbeautiful · 20/08/2026 20:30

@loggerlikesweet261 you’re jealous of shops selling really low quality clothes. Where you currently buy your clothes from Next and M&S will last and look good for years.

PurplebudsWhitebuds · 20/08/2026 20:36

I'm another 5ft 2 person@myyellowbonnet and @IwanttoWFH
It's a nightmare trying to find trousers that are the right length isn't it?
Either retailers don't do short length at all or their supposedly short lengths are still too long. Or else its the elasticated waist frumpy option.

I must admit OP I had assumed tall people would be able to get trousers long enough without much problem. Shows how it's wrong to make assumptions and you have my sympathy.

BleedinglyObvious · 20/08/2026 20:37

Coleen Rooney is 5'3"

@PurplebudsWhitebuds , it's much harder if you are long-legged like OP. At least you can shorten clothes.

rubyrued · 20/08/2026 20:38

It’s annoying, I could never wear Topshop skirts & dresses in the 00s because they were indecent but I’d rather long legs so pros & cons

Doesn’t really work like that though, as the proportions are all wrong even if you shorten them. They don’t fit on the thigh or arse.

bettyrubble99 · 20/08/2026 20:43

Blood frustrating isn't it.
I'm too fat for primark things. Which upsets me deeply as they have such lovely pjs in especially at Xmas. If i buy a top from there now i'd end up like Winnie The Pooh after a few steps.
I shop on curvewow now as they do lovely things. I find Yours expensive.

summater · 20/08/2026 20:51

I'm 5'10" but my legs are only 33" so I fit the long size in a lot of shops but I have got really long arms and find most sleeves too short so am limited with coats and cardigans. I did buy some summer shirts in Next sale as the reviews were all complaining they had such long sleeves on them, probably why they were in the sale, they were fine for me though

I know trousers can be shortened - I've been doing it for long enough! - but quite often it ruins the style of them.

When i shop for clothes there always seems to be plenty of longer length trousers which is why I hadn't taken on board the lack of trousers for very tall people.

WhyArePiratesCalledPirates · 20/08/2026 21:02

HALARA!!!
Im tall and shop exclusively in next and LTS for trousers, but I discovered halara on fb last week.
They have 6 different leg lengths!!!!
I bought 2 pairs, will be keeping them both. Unheard of outside of next/LTS!

BleedinglyObvious · 20/08/2026 21:14

@PurplebudsWhitebuds ,you can't add length though, which was the point of my post.

There are quite a lot of trousers if you are up to about 32/33 inch leg which are probably what you have seen and fit me fine but once you get over about 33" there are a lot less

BleedinglyObvious · 20/08/2026 21:28

DH is 36" inside leg and is limited in what's available, plus there are things like beds being too short.

SunsetDrifter · 20/08/2026 21:30

Primark trousers are made for giants, I'm 5ft 4 and can't buy them, unless I want to start sewing them (I don't!)

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 20/08/2026 21:30

It's not your height OP, it's your legs!

I'm the same height as you and my inseam is 32".

I can see why shopping must be incredibly frustrating for you because even Extra Long is only 35-36" from what I've seen. On the other hand, your proportions are amazing; I imagine you cut quite a spectacular figure!

TheFairyCaravan · 20/08/2026 21:35

DH and our DSes are tall. It’s not just leg lengths we have a problem with, it’s sleeves too. The amount of shirts, jumpers and jackets I’ve sent back is ridiculous. Some stores have cottoned on but not enough, imo, and not many have the actual items physically in the shops so they can be tried on.

And don’t get me started on shoes. Trying to find a size 14 is horrendous.

Stormyrose · 20/08/2026 21:46

I feel your pain, I’m only five foot 6 and my legs are 32 inside leg, short body, I basically look like Bambi, so most normal trouser lengths are 29 inches and far too short, so I need the long.

I used to be 5ft 7, I’ve shrunk an inch and am 57. But my legs didn’t shrink obvs. It’s your spine compresses, which has amplified the effect.

5' 2" isn't that short. OP is 5'11",which is taller than the average man in the UK.

Duplicated post.

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 20/08/2026 21:58

It is annoying when nothing fits because of your height. I have the opposite problem. My legs are much shorter than average and I pretty much live in dresses because it’s so difficult to find trousers that fit me properly I usually don’t bother.

Bitzee · 20/08/2026 22:03

At least you’re properly tall. I’m the awkward inbetween of 5ft7.5 where regular is too short but tall swaps me. Mostly wear skirts! Or jeans where you get more length options. Other trousers are a non starter.
