I bought a tracksuit in Primark today from the new Coleen Rooney range. Lovely navy colour, stunning. I only planned to buy the tracksuit top but the trousers were so nice I decided to just buy them too.

I don’t know why I did this - I don’t know what I was thinking. Primark bottoms do not fit me. I am 5ft 11 with an inside leg of 38. They were halfway up my calves.

I get all my bottom halves from Next Tall, Long Tall Sally, ASOS Tall or M&S. But they all cost a fortune! An absolute fortune!

I think I’m just envious of girls who can walk into stores like H&M, Primark, even supermarkets and pick up beautiful trousers/jeans/tracksuits and it not cost the earth.

I’m annoyed with myself for buying the trousers today. I guess I just wanted to feel “normal.” I’ll be returning them tomorrow :(

You need to be buying trousers from Zara and Mango. I'm 5 10 and dd is 6ft and we both have lots of success there.

How did you not notice in the shop? Did you not hold them up against you and see that they only went to calf length?

Im lucky i get most of my clothes and shoes from the kids/teen sections.

Completely missing the point of this thread... but wow!! 38 inches?! I've got a long body and short legs (28 inches). We'd look hilarious next to each other.

My poor mum was over 6 foot with size 9 feet back in the 50's. There was literally nothing for her.
Luckily her aunts were dressmakers and made all her clothes for her so she could at least be fashionable. In London in the 70's there was Long Tall Sally.
When I was small they used to make all our outfits match which was a thing then but everyone would stare at the great big woman and the small girl in matching outfits.
Im short but I have all the pain in the arse features a woman doesnt want. Half size, very wide feet. 5 foot 5 but with a short body and 31 inch inside leg.
The high waist trend meant all waists were under my boobs. Great.

I think its shit being at the outer boundary of whats considered average.
Im 4'10 and buying clothes is a nightmare, not being able to reach anything, having a cafe counter at eyebrow height, blocked view at concerts/theatre, having less than optimal.position in a car (seat belt, seat height etc) but the advantages are enough legroom on a flight and easily fitting a bag in front of you on a train or bus!

Their is a shop in Street just outside Glastonbury where I live that does 14s.
Ive just noticed they are closing down but everything will be on sale. Stock up.

I’m 6ft 1 with long legs, an incredibly long torso but tiny tiny t-Rex arms. So I can get the torso length in tall sizes but the sleeves hang over my tiny tiny arms. I’m fucked.

i have size 44 feet (9.5/10/10.5//11) depending on who you speak to and i dream of being able to just 2alk into aomeqhere an be able to pick from the womens section. it doesnt help that men seem to be so insecure about having smaller feet than a woman. my best friend is 5ft 1 and buys her shoes in the kids section. this season none of the tops in oliver bonas fit they are all sooo short

I doubt they do 38" inside leg. Worth a try though.

As I pp, I'm average height (UK average for women) and have no trouble, so there will be a lot of women who will find lengths too short.

If you're average uk height for a woman that's 5ft 4 inches (ie 64 inches). If your inside leg is 38 inches that means from the top of your head to the top of your inside thigh is only 26 inches. That would seem very unlikely.

Sorry, I've just realised that you're not the OP. It does seem unlikely a 5ft 4 tall woman would have an inside leg measurement of 38 inches though.

Absolutely! You can always cut a bit off, (however annoying/expensive that may be), but you can never, ever, add a bit on.

My Dd16 is the same height as you OP. I agree it's frustrating and shoes are even worse. Her feet are size 44 or 45 and basically has to wear men's styles.

I firmly believe that all clothes fit nobody.

I'm only 5ft7 but all of my height is in my legs, I have a stubby little body on great long stick legs (and correspondingly stalky arms)

I gave up wearing trousers for years and years. The current fashion for having trousers flapping around your ankles is quite helpful as it disguises the shortfall. Once that's out again, I'll be back in skirts.

Cardigans and general sleeve length issues are also challenging!

And sizes - I'm two stone heavier than I was twenty years ago but I'm still a size 8. What is the old me (or my DD who has a similar build) supposed to wear?

Exactly the same here. I'm always so happy when I find tops and shirts with sleeves long enough. I usually find myself rolling them up.

I don't have any problems with trousers, but I have a long body so can't wear jumpsuits and have wide feet and really struggle to find shoes that fit me.

It is annoying, but we all have our crosses to bear!

That’s a long leg for 5’11”. I’m that (but 35/36” inside leg) and in my teen years (1970s), there’s was no Long Tall Sally. I made a lot of my clothes. I had size 8 shoe and that was unusual then too. And today so often ‘maxi’ dresses are ‘midi’ on me which is a particularly unflattering length unless wearing boots.

I think in general manufacturers have to catch up with the fact that kids are getting taller nowadays. Recently we had to hire a wheelchair for my son who is not particularly tall and they were all built for short people!!

A lot of products are designed for the average customer. Clothes, car seats, aircraft seats, beds, chairs, kitchens, desks, tables...

Clothes manufacturers are improving but I think the clothes for young, tall, slight children is poor.
(I'm average height for a UK women but DC and DH are much taller than average.)

Shoes are my thing and it’s only when I had children that my feet grew from a size 8 to what they are today and I can honestly say I’ve never had to wear men’s shoes. In fact I currently have about 30 pairs which I think is great for someone in a 44 and I only mention the amount to show there are shoes out there and we can look really nice feet wise.

I also buy from Zappos, After 6, Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack. Yes the courier charges can add up but it’s better than being crippled by shoes that don’t fit properly and if you buy in the sales it can balance out.

Oh and in the summer I also got some very comfy and fashionable strappy flat sandals from the Amazon essential range and I noticed they did women’s shoes up to about a 14 also. In fact I may have ordered the wrong size and ended up with a pair of ballet flats that were a size 14. It’s the first time in my life I’d had shoes that were too big. It was great.

A lot of things are designed for the average man, which is good for me as I am fairly average man size.

You’re not just tall, you’re unusually leggy (over half your height in your legs) as well which won’t help.

I’m 2” shorter but my inseam is a full 5” shorter and I am considered leggy.

I’m only 5’8” but it meant I was considered very tall as a teenager in the late 60’s early 70’s. My mum always had me in Clarks shoes and she’d buy me sandals that only came in brown because of the size then dye them nice colours so I had pretty shoes like other wee girls. I think it’s my experience as a child that makes me love shoes now.
