Is this too ‘babyish’ for secondary school?

My DD is starting secondary school in September. We were browsing backpacks over the weekend. She’s absolutely loves this Jansport one. (Photo attached but may take a moment to approve). Is it going to be too young for secondary/ will she be teased for having a flowery bag?
Most of the secondary children I’ve seen have black backpacks, I’ve seen Nike etc which I’ve suggested but she doesn’t want plain black. If this is too young for secondary, I may have to tell her a white lie and that the uniform policy says it has to be a block colour!

It’s a nice bag but it’s £60!!!! For a school bag?!
It'll get chucked around and be filthy in no time.
I’d buy it for weekends etc or when she goes to college maybe but I’m not sure I’d spend that kind of money on a school bag personally.

School bags take a lot of punishment and carry a lot of heavy kit (laptops files etc). IME a cheap bag will fall apart very fast. £60 is worth it for decent quality.

Agree with you about this one getting filthy though!

It’s quite nice. Could you show her similar Cath Kidston ones? They’re a bit more on trend I think. Herschel do floral ones too. Maybe you could get her two so she has a spare (for weekends) then she can swap it around if she feels the Jan Sport one doesn’t fit in with what her mates have.

If they have black backpacks then get her those.

Just seen the price! Eh if she really wants it get it for her. My step grandma got me tote bags (rectangular with pockets and handles) for school for birthday Christmas gifts but they were what everyone else had so I was pleased. I have no idea what my mum bought me she must’ve bought something but she was quite fussy about my clothes and liked me to look French (lots of black and navy).

I know! My two have both been through secondary school. Spent about £30/£35ish on a Hyppe bag for my DD and that’s still going strong now and saw her through college too!
My DS had his rucksack stolen in junior school, so I could never justify £60 for a school bag personally.

I forget that these days school kids carry laptops and so on in them. Not in my day!

So my kids aren’t fashion followers. They don’t wear the north face coats that all the others wear or carry the Nike back packs or oversized handbags. Both have a backpack. My eldest is autistic and has a specific colour hyper fixation and has her coat and bag both in that colour. She has never been picked on for it and is now both form. It’s a lighter plain colour though so does drive me mad as can look grubby quite easily. She had a van sons af one point but more recently a non branded. Youngest has had a variety of coloured backpacks and again no one has batted an eye lid. Her current one is black unbranded with a lot of pockets and dividers but previously she’s had a turquoise one that has an opening at the top more like a tote bag bf was a backpack. Again the colour meant it got front easily. Most of the girls use oversized handbags but they have to carry a Chromebook, reading book, various other books as well as pencil case etc that she needs a big bag. She often also uses a tote bag for PE - often a canvas one we have bought at a theatre show or other attraction.
