This is sooo dodgy. There’s no recent photos of them, no one knows why they were there.
They were fully clothed. Handbags on the beach.
Their mum was found dead in a lake 16 yrs ago in Birmingham.
Police have reviewed 100’s of hours og cctv footage and nothing.
What the actual fuck?!

We should all be shouting for answers. why? Why do we need answers other than so people can start more lurid discussions about it?

SixtySevenLabubus · 27/05/2026 23:42

They were women (in their 30s I believe), not girls.

Why has nothing been released about their lives? Like their jobs and so on?

I’m not lying 😂 there are lots of us that do it every week in the winter, check out quayswim on Facebook and go back to the winter months! It’s not that rare.
But it does take a lot of building up to, swimming year round not just waking up one random winters day without any winter acclimatisation and deciding to launch yourself in.
The place I go has staff, lifeguards situated all around the perimeter of where you swim on little boats making sure everyone is okay. There are fires in the winter and a tea and coffee area for people to have a hot drink and warm up. Most people do swim in wetsuits when it gets that cold, there is another lake a few miles in the other direction from me but they stipulate wetsuits are mandatory below I think 15° and I hate them so stick to the one that doesn’t require them (we do have to wear colourful hats and tow floats all year round though).
Anyway, not here to derail the thread, just feels a bit bizarre to be called a liar about doing something that’s seemingly quite popular where I am 😂

I just looked but couldn't easily see anything about temps.

If the RNLI says that cold water shock is liable to kick in at 15C, logically it just seems really unlikely that you'd be wearing no wetsuit in water that's 1.4C - 10C.

But people do all sorts of crazy things, so carry on! But don't come crying to me when you die of cold! 🤣

ThereAreOnlyShadesOfGrey · 27/05/2026 23:44

I think it’s weird that not one family member, friend or colleague has come forward to say why they were in Brighton in the first place. maybe they didn’t know.

These were three grown women in their 30’s. Presumably they went where they wanted without the need or desire to tell their family where they were going.

I go all manner of places without my family knowing, if I came to grief my family might not even know where I’d been, added to which they might not want to appear in the press to have their stories picked over on social media and websites like this one.

MaybeIamJustABitch · 27/05/2026 23:51

By the power of Mumsnet I now proclaim you all to be super detectives!! 🤣 Seriously, speculate all you want but there are three side to this, their story, the ‘others’ story, and finally and most importantly, the truth! We may or may not ever know the truth and can all be armchair detectives, but is that worth such a debate? 3 women’s lost their lives in supposedly tragic circumstances, let us allow them to RIP regardless!!

Cold water swimming is very popular. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-08-25/williamstown-swimmers-pollution-water-sparkles/104229610

"Port Phillip Bay is currently about 10 degrees Celsius, but that doesn't stop the 300 or so swimmers who arrive in 15-minute waves."

Very different from going in the water fully dressed and unprepared though.

At a beach in Melbourne's industrial west, 'pollution is a concern' but it rarely stops these swimmers

Before dawn, Williamstown Beach in Melbourne's inner west is alive with the giggles of those braving the winter seawater, who turn out each day regardless of the weather forecasts, or the warnings issued by Victoria's Environment Protection Agency.

I think there's something odd about this. Could they swim? 95% of black adults in the UK don't swim regularly ( I just googled this because I knew it was a high proportion as I'm involved with kids swimming groups) . So why would they decide to swim in the sea in the dark? I'm a frequent sea swimmer and wouldn't do that. And it seems they weren't drunk? Something seems off I think?

Yeah everyone is different of course but this is why it doesn’t ring true for many Black people. I have one Black female friend who might do something like that but she’s a rarity.

Again obviously people are different but I struggle to believe 3 Black women decided to jump in the sea at Brighton in the early hours of the morning for any good reason . It’s especially unusual for Black women moreso than Black men because concerns about maintaining their hairstyles.

I don’t know what happened but I hope it gets looked into properly.

Happyjoe · 28/05/2026 00:03

Oh, so we've moved on from they must be asylum seekers that have fallen out of a boat to a different conspiracy theory now have we?

Wanna be Ms Marples.

Kickinthenostalgia · 27/05/2026 22:39

I said this from day one….
police said they weren’t looking it as suspicious, but then urged people to come forward with cctv etc….

Three so-far unexplained deaths. OF COURSE the police are going to need as much information as they can possibly gather, and that would include working out their whereabouts and movements throughout the period leading up to their deaths. Hence wanting to view cctv footage of the area, to build a picture leading up to this awful tragedy.

Watdidusay · 28/05/2026 00:14

I'm starting to wonder if one or more of the women had severe mental health issues eg psychosis. Would explain a few quirks in the story. Very sad.

CrossWit · 28/05/2026 00:17

It’s incredibly weird that there was no more recent photo of them than one from fifteen years+ ago.

Is it? Or maybe their families didn’t want photos of them plastered all over the internet?

Not everyone lives their lives on social media you know.

I just had a quick google and south coast sea temps are showing at about 12-14c at the moment. We were down there at the weekend and we were paddling but at one point I stepped in a bit further than planned and it made me gasp and feel quite panicky. I’ve not had that happen before. I couldn’t believe people were swimming it in tbh but I do like really warm water! But now seeing what the actual temps are I can easily see how someone in the night in likely even colder water and cold weather could easily have got into trouble. Especially if they perhaps couldn’t swim
and no one had any kind of life guarding lessons.

EBearhug · 28/05/2026 00:35

I went in yesterday at Boscombe - it was about 14° - fresh to get in, but then lovely.

What about this one?

That photo is Ai-generated, based on photos of the women 15 years ago. The family themselves confirms it. The women were in their 30s when they passed.

Oh. Who produced it? I saw it on the TV news as the first picture released. Didn't realise it wasn't real

ZanzibarIsland · 28/05/2026 00:56

In the younger photo one of the girls looks underweight

The family produced it from a much earlier photo because they said they didn't have a more recent one with all three together. They provided it to the police but didn't note it was AI-generated, and the police withdrew it when they found out and are now using the earlier photo.

Ok thanks

PeonyBulb · 28/05/2026 01:24

There’s a lot of CCTV in Brighton but not much down on the seafront itself other than on some seafront shops but you can’t see much at night. So the police would have been able to track them to that point. It’s highly unlikely something untoward happened to them by other people. However I do wonder if they had some strange home set up going on if it wasn’t just an unfortunate accident where they were trying to save each other in the sea after going for a paddle.

NameChangeMay2026 · 27/05/2026 23:31

You should be careful. The RNLI says you shouldn't swim without a wetsuit in water 15C or under, as that's when you get cold water shock. I don't believe you swim in only a costume in water that's 10C and down to 1.4.

I swim all year round in an unheated outdoor pool - very few people wear a wetsuit.

Though this isn't relevant to the sisters who clearly weren't swimming

That's probably not as cold as open water, though.

Since they were fully clothed but their shoes and handbags were on the beach, it's thought they went for a paddle and got into trouble.
