This is sooo dodgy. There’s no recent photos of them, no one knows why they were there.
They were fully clothed. Handbags on the beach.
Their mum was found dead in a lake 16 yrs ago in Birmingham.
Police have reviewed 100’s of hours og cctv footage and nothing.
What the actual fuck?!

To help who out? The poor girls are dead.

The funeral expenses is the main one.

But also I assume dad isn’t going to be able to work for a while and so having the bills paid just takes the strain off of him.

The women were all above 30 so I’m not sure if they have children but some money being used towards bills or even something nice for the kids would be good.

I said this from day one….
police said they weren’t looking it as suspicious, but then urged people to come forward with cctv etc….

They still need to gather evidence for the Coroners inquest

Leorag · 27/05/2026 23:19

I think there's something odd about this. Could they swim? 95% of black adults in the UK don't swim regularly ( I just googled this because I knew it was a high proportion as I'm involved with kids swimming groups) . So why would they decide to swim in the sea in the dark? I'm a frequent sea swimmer and wouldn't do that. And it seems they weren't drunk? Something seems off I think?

CaesarAugusta · 27/05/2026 23:20

The part that’s harder to understand is what they were doing in Brighton, much less in the water, in the first place.

I don't see why it's hard to understand why they were in Brighton? After all, it's a place people regularly visit for holidays, short breaks, overnight stays etc. As for why they were in the water, there have been a number of entirely plausible explanations given on this thread.

Suicide isn’t odd though
something like a shared psychotic delusion isn’t odd
there are a few fairly mundane explanations imo

Highly unlikely that they did decide to swim. There's every likelihood that one or more of them was simply paddling when one of them reached the bit where the beach suddenly slopes downwards, and therefore lost balance and fell. If the others then went to help and none were regular swimmers, sadly it's not too hard to see how the tragedy happened.

Who said they tried to swim? One may have gone for a paddle or got washed in by a wave and the other 2 went to help and drowned.

2 family members of a friend of mine drowned on a beach in similar circs, the only reason my friend didn’t drown too is bc the family member who went in insisted they did not and instead went to call for help.

I was shocked to find out that it was 3 sisters, wasn’t aware of the+other information.

very curious indeed.

so sad 😢

Leorag · 27/05/2026 23:28

Triple sibling suicide seems very odd?! I can sort of understand them the theory of them all going to help but the water wasn't terrible. Although If you can't swim I guess that doesn't matter. Still seems strange to me they all died.

GodThatsBrilliant · 27/05/2026 23:28

I completely agree

It's one thing to go in when you're expecting to, and another when you slip or fall. Plenty of people would find 12° too cold to swim.

This is so true. I swim year round in a lake in my swimming costume, when it gets to 10° and all the way down to 1.4° I always take a couple of minutes to stand in it to my waist and just breathe to acclimatise. Some others can just get in and off they go but I know I need a few minutes to get my breathing under control. I can only imagine with horror the shock of falling in or getting in very quickly without any preparation time. I don’t think I’d fare very well at all with being totally submerged unexpectedly and the lake sometimes has a strong wind giving it little waves and can definitely affect the direction of swimming, pulling you sideways slightly etc, but they’re not sea waves that can crash about unpredictably.

They weren't swimming in the dark. They were fully clothed so probably intended just to paddle. And they were first spotted at 5.45 am, so probably went in after 5 when it was light. Probably sat and watched it get light after the clubs close at 4. Maybe they wanted to cool aching feet after a long night out. And there is a steep drop at Brighton that's often under water. There is nothing "off" about this.

2026baby · 27/05/2026 23:31

I think its weird that not one family member, friend or colleague has come forward to say why they were in Brighton in the first place.

In my head, the most logical reason is a day trip or night out but why can't that be confirmed? And why were they there at 5am? Too early for a day trip and quite late for most people's nights out, especially for three sisters in their 30s on a random Tuesday night especially as they weren't local.

Also weird that the family used AI to create a recent picture of them. How is there not a single picture of at least one of them in adulthood? Two of them were only teenagers when there num died but they look younger than that in the only pic posted.

Much more minor but also intriguing - one sister had a different surname yet they all had the same parents. Was she married? Where is her husband in this?

You should be careful. The RNLI says you shouldn't swim without a wetsuit in water 15C or under, as that's when you get cold water shock. I don't believe you swim in only a costume in water that's 10C and down to 1.4.

To pay for the funerals surely? They aren't cheap.

I’m guessing that one slipped and got into difficulty, and the others tried to help her

The parents were Janice and Joseph Adetoro. Janice's maiden name was Walters. The oldest sister had the Adetoro name, but the younger two had their mother's maiden name. I wonder if the younger two went by Walters because they thought it would attract less discrimination when applying for jobs, college etc to have a name that sounds English.

I’m not lying 😂 there are lots of us that do it every week in the winter, check out quayswim on Facebook and go back to the winter months! It’s not that rare.
But it does take a lot of building up to, swimming year round not just waking up one random winters day without any winter acclimatisation and deciding to launch yourself in.
The place I go has staff, lifeguards situated all around the perimeter of where you swim on little boats making sure everyone is okay. There are fires in the winter and a tea and coffee area for people to have a hot drink and warm up. Most people do swim in wetsuits when it gets that cold, there is another lake a few miles in the other direction from me but they stipulate wetsuits are mandatory below I think 15° and I hate them so stick to the one that doesn’t require them (we do have to wear colourful hats and tow floats all year round though).
Anyway, not here to derail the thread, just feels a bit bizarre to be called a liar about doing something that’s seemingly quite popular where I am 😂

And also to make life better for the relatives. Counselling, time off work etc. I donated and I don't begrudge them any extra at all.

I hadn't seen anything reporting why they were there just statements from the dad and aunts so thought the absence of a reason weird.

Perhaps the police are waiting to release toxicology reports that they were under the influence. I guess more might come out from the coroner

Awfulinlaws · 27/05/2026 23:39

REDB99 · 27/05/2026 21:09

I haven’t read any other details other than them being named and a quote from the father. I think the circumstances are strange but it isn’t difficult to see how it could happen. They go for a paddle, the sea wasn’t especially calm, one falls, the others try to help, they get into difficultly, cold water shock and panic are a dangerous combination and it ends horribly tragically. We don’t know if they could swim which would make it harder for them to get out of any difficulty.

Paddling and then the beach sharply shelving is a major issue. But, I agree with OP, it is really strange and those poor women deserve answers.

I suppose potentially logical. Just to me the absence of family/friends/colleagues coming forward saying they were there for X reason makes me suspicious
