To be secretly hoping our summer flights are all cancelled and there’s a travel ban

This is awful to admit but I’m secretly hoping something happens and we can’t go on our booked holiday in August.

Because of a difficult teen we pretty much only holiday with friends (she is so awful if it’s just us) but that means compromise - so we didn’t choose the location.
I hate hot weather, it wrecks my skin with eczema. And the chalet site has terrible reviews.

It’s seven weeks of school hols so we have to do something but honestly dreading it. Might have to do something drastic like break an ankle two days before….
i know I’m being ungrateful so this is lighthearted honestly.

Well I can understand that you might not be looking forward to your particular holiday - any chance you can change to something that suits you better?

You have some personal issues so you are wishing for something that impacts millions of people? It's really unsavoury in light of the current political situation and the recent past with Covid. Why not wish for something that personally affects you or your family? Why curse the rest of us?

I don't think the OP is really wishing for this and all the things associated with it (and would in reality hate it if it did happen). It's more musing it'd be nice to have an out-of-my-hands no-blame reason to not go and I'd be happy staying at home even if others wouldn't.

OP may be think of some things you would enjoy doing when you're there eg a places to visit, food to eat, a good book to read in the shade somewhere...

OP, you don’t have to go on holiday. It sounds absolutely awful.

Who would want to spend what is supposed to be a relaxing time away, sun, sea and sand, with you, who would prefer a world tragedy or Serious injury and your teenager who makes your life at least, a misery.

In fact your post reminds me of the many miserable families I see when I go on holiday. Stay at home! We have had fantastic summers lately.

It doesnt suit you, cancel. Its very liberating not being a people pleaser anymore.

Just cancel the holiday, don’t wish travel disruption on everyone else who actually wants to go on holiday.

Do you have to take the teen? Is she old enough to leave home alone, or stay with relatives/friends?

Don't take said teen on holiday then. Why reward that behaviour?

Many airlines get their fuel from the US so this is unlikely. And EasyJet has issued a public statement that they will not be imposing fuel surcharges or cancelling any flights in 2026 as they have plenty of fuel to see them through the year.

I also have teens who prefer to holiday with friends but that doesn’t mean I go on a shit holiday! I research, choose where I want to go and then the teens are allowed to invite a friend each to join us. Friend pays for their flight but nothing else. That’s how most of the people I know do it. Then everyone is happy.

You know you don't have to go on holiday. Maybe spend some money on therapy for your teenager.you are so scared of her you can't be alone with her, that isn't sarcasm I am being genuine, and sometimes inside thoughts don't have to be typed out!

Leave said child at home! Reschedule holiday to what suits you and look forward to it. Life is way too short.

Bloody hell, OP did say it was lighthearted, ffs! Sounds miserable @Decisionsdecisions1 is there no way to change the chalet or area where you’re going? What age is the teen? Can they go on holiday with friends themselves yet? I do sympathise, I’ve a DP that never wants to go on holiday 😞
