so keen to see the back of vile dangerous vapes everywhere 🫠

LittleGreenDragons · 21/04/2026 18:28

It would be good news if I actually saw anyone smoking cigarettes now. However nearly 1 in 3 schoolchildren near me seem to vape instead. They need to target vapes/shops.

Blimms · 21/04/2026 18:40

They are behind the times and so this will be ineffective. Kids aren’t smoking anymore, it’s vapes that appear to be the thing now.

TheCurious0range · 21/04/2026 18:41

I agree that children seem to vape but it's about 50/50 smokers and vapers in the under 25s at work and nearly all of the smokers started off vaping

Those people won’t be affected by the ban though. It’s the children who are 16/17 and below.

Listlostlast · 21/04/2026 18:51

I wonder if it’ll be more successful than New Zealand’s attempt.

Well yes but those 15/16/17 years old vapers may well have done what the 20 year old smokers I work with did and move on to smoking. Personally I'd ban both but it's a step in the right direction

VetMedMum · 21/04/2026 19:05

Would have seemed unbelievable 25 years ago!

WhatAMarvelousTune · 21/04/2026 19:11

The bill also bans vaping in cars with children, at playgrounds, or outside schools.

Minnie798 · 21/04/2026 19:25

The generation this affects don't smoke anyway.

MadeForThis · 21/04/2026 19:29

Why not ban vapes too for u17? They were designed as a stop smoking aid. If u17 have never smoked then they don’t need vapes either.

Yes, it wouldn’t have been difficult to add in.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 21/04/2026 19:49

Yeah because banning things always goes well

EvilNextDoor · 21/04/2026 19:53

I wonder where they are going to tax us instead…the revenue smoking brings in is quite high from
memory..

Fantastic news tho

I agree, I feel like vaping is way more common than smoking now!

elliejjtiny · 21/04/2026 20:05

Good news. My asthma has improved so much since it stopped being socially acceptable to smoke in public. It used to be everywhere when I was young.

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/04/2026 20:12

Agree that vapes are everywhere and vile.

Terrribletwos · 21/04/2026 20:18

Are they not illegal anyway for under17s?

Terrribletwos · 21/04/2026 20:18

But it could be made so they’re always ilegal for current under 18s

Terrribletwos · 21/04/2026 20:31

I saw 2 kids today with vapes and they definitely looked about 13/14 years old so somebody is selling them.

CraftyNavySeal · 21/04/2026 20:59

I vehemently disagree with the principle.

Either they are adults or they aren’t. They are old enough to join the army and pay taxes so they are old enough to smoke if they want to. We can’t have a second class of adults who aren’t allowed to do some things for the rest of their lives because the government says no.

Yeah same here - my asthma is always worse around people who selfishly smoke and vape
