Vivid dream of pregnancy

Had such an odd vivid dream about pregnancy last night (for the record, I'm 53 and single!) I dreamed I was having one of those 4D scans and could see the images of a baby girl (my children were all boys) and I was very close to giving birth. I remember years ago, a colleague who was very into dream interpretation commenting that a dream of birth meant a death was imminent, so this has freaked me out a bit. It's not true, is it? I haven't been around any pregnant women or babies lately, or watched anything about pregnancy that could have influenced the dream in the normal way.

It can also mean a new phase in your life, the birth of an idea or some new venture (I think) I’m not an interpreter!

Something like 95% of our thoughts are apparently subconscious ones. That’s all it will be. I dream all sorts of totally random things. Dreams don’t predict the future, and if they appear to it is just a coincidence.

HermioneWeasley · 11/08/2025 10:50

Of course it’s not true. Don’t give it any more thought

Our dreams are just random thoughts thrown up by our brains during REM sleep. They don’t predict.

Hmmm why would a dream of birth mean death, let alone 'imminent'?
Sounds like plucked out of the sky. Also, dreams should be interpreted individually, not generally.
It could be that part of you (maybe subconscious) would have liked to have a baby girl, and as you wont be getting pregnant again it manifests in your dream.
In the Tarot, the pregnant empress is associated with many positives like growth, abundance, nurturing etc..even the Death card has a "new beginning" meaning. So don't panic.

Yes, a couple of v significant things have happened in the last week. Finally sold the old family home which has been an albatross round our necks for a couple of years, and I got the all clear from an MRI for something, which had been worrying me. So it's maybe a positive 'new beginning' thing, I will take that!

I’m quite a bit older than you, and I had a very vivid dream that I was pregnant, a couple of years ago. The dream finally ended with me saying to myself, ‘Hang on, I can’t possibly be pregnant - I’m too old!
And woke up.
Nobody has died!

I'm very glad to hear that @GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER! (and glad I'm not in a position to get pregnant either! 😀)

I’ve just remembered, since I couldn’t know at the time, that it was at the same time a dd was fairly newly pregnant (a surprise baby) and had been told at a scan that there was a high risk of Down’s. She and SiL had been acutely worried for at least a week, until tests came back to say all well.

She didn’t tell me any of this until afterwards.

I couldn’t recall ever having dreamt of being pregnant before, so I did wonder about telepathy - my Dm was occasionally acutely telepathic in times of acute stress in someone close, but I’d never experienced any such thing myself.

That's interesting @GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER. Your daughter's baby will have been inside you at some point, when you were pregnant with her, as an egg cell. I've always found that thought mind-boggling...

Yes, I told the elder Gdcs when they were small, that you were once inside my tummy, a tiny little seed* that was in your mummy’s tummy before she was even born!

They were wide-eyed at first, but just accepted it.

*It was a bit too soon to tell them it was only half of them, and go into where the other half came from…

How dare you, I am also 53 and I had a dream that I was on tour with Taylor Swift! Surely that predicts international stardom for me?!

mumtoadhdadult · 16/08/2025 13:16

I too dreamt I was pregnant, (I’m 65) the doctor, when I said ‘but I’ve had a hysterectomy’ said ‘that’s ok, you will grow a uterus around the baby’ 😱

Dreams are seriously weird at times!!!

caramac04 · 16/08/2025 13:21

It’s an old fashioned saying but has no truth in it beyond an occasional coincidence.
