Advice on Managing Toddler Tantrums in Public?

Hi mums, I’m struggling with managing my 2-year-old’s tantrums, especially when we’re out in public. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to calm them down without attracting too much attention. I’ve tried distraction techniques, but they don’t always work. Does anyone have any tips or strategies that worked for them in similar situations? Thanks in advance!

I love that this is in the paranormal section. Do you think your kids is Chucky? Or are you just hoping for a supernatural solution? A guardian angel or a magic spell maybe.

Yes this is in the wrong section 🙂
But - do what ever you do at home and don't give any attention to whatever other people might be thinking.
Toddlers tantrum. That's their job.

Wait it out, don't worry about attention. You need to make sure they're safe, get them out of any sort of thoroughfare, but pretty much that's it!

Pre empt the tantrum and avoid it altogether.

Don't try to do the things when they are hungry "as it'll only take a minute" because it never just takes a minute. See to physical needs first and you'll have more success.

Tantrums are communication, teach them to sign, DD was signing in sentences long before she could talk jn them. Her being able to tell me food/drink/ more / finished / home / loud / again etc was a game changer and her tantrumming decreased massively the more she could communicate

Manage expectations, before you go in to X, Y,Z shop tell them what is going to happen if last time they got sweets / ice lolly / a toy they might expect it again so manage the expectations before they are disappointed. When at the park offer a count down (in n activities) before you go. "We only ave time for three more slides.....Wow you went so fast on your last slide, I wonder if you can run to that tree/ bench / lampost faster than mummy can. ... Oh wow you were fast. When we get home should we watch Thomas or Barney / play with Duplo or play DOH?"
