Doorbell Rang Nobody There

Right I don't know if it's because there are a boatload of changes happening at the moment (stress related) but bear with me

1:30pm doorbell rang, I was in DD room and asked DH to get the door. He answered and nobody there, nobody in the street / around the garden or the vicinity. I specifically heard him say 'hiya' but told me nobody there. He had to reset the doorbell as it sometimes sticks when pressed which causes the chime to buzz, it has really made me uneasy my skin is crawling. Have tried to see if there is anything woo about this but coming up with conflicting answers. MN do your best deductions.

We've had a doorbell in the past that has gone off by itself during heavy rain and the circuit gets a bit damp. Was it raining?

AzureSheep · 22/08/2024 15:01

My parents had the same doorbell as their neighbours opposite, every time someone rang the neighbours doorbell it would also set my parents off 😂 Think they had to get a different one in the end.

BobbyBiscuits · 22/08/2024 15:03

I think it's just the circuit or battery or sensor in doorbell is faulty. Or if it was windy and wet it messes with it.
Or could have been someone with a delivery and they realised wrong door so legged it. If they might have had to go round to another house and they're on a timer they'd be running. Their van could be been on the other road or they were on a push bike.

Also, it's the school holidays.

Ever heard of "Knock down ginger"?

WonderingWanda · 22/08/2024 15:06

Amazon delivery, they put parcels on our step, ring the bell and are often gone before I reach the door.

NuffSaidSam · 22/08/2024 15:06

Definitely a doorbell ghost.

Sorry OP, you'll have to move.

Aposterhasnoname · 22/08/2024 15:08

I’d it a ring doorbell? Mines fibre that a couple of times. Nothing woo, just tech having a moment.

motherhoodmcrollercoaster · 22/08/2024 15:33

Bog standard doorbell

It's been v wet and windy with it blowing in at the front of the house so sensible answer would be weather related

No deliveries today

Schools are back here so not chappy / ringy players

OP do you not watch ghosty horror films? They always start with an innocent family moving into a new house...

I'd get an exorcist round pronto.

motherhoodmcrollercoaster · 22/08/2024 18:59

@NuffSaidSam without being too outing the house has a colourful history 🍃 🧑‍🌾

Perhaps get a ring doorbell and you may be able to catch the apparition on the camera next time they call?

LovelyDaaling · 22/08/2024 19:16

Is it a wireless door bell? And if so, did you leave it on the factory setting for the frequency? If so, it's highly likely that another neighbour has fitted a new doorbell and also left it on the factory setting. If their doorbell is pressed, it will operate your bell too.

We bought a new doorbell for my mum and tried it out in the kitchen of our house first. We tried all the possible chimes (about twelve in all) and couldn't understand why the next door neighbour kept opening her front door (we can see her front door from our kitchen window).

Nope an old school wired one with a chime inside it was definitely pushed in as DH had to unstick the button on the bell as the chime was buzzing

All very very odd!

Yes! And also what era they're from (you'll be able to tell by their clothes), that'll give you a guide as to what their unfinished business may be/who they are.

Perhaps your DH took delivery of a surprise gift for you? Or him….. I hope it’s the former

There isn't any evidence of anything (DH is a rubbish present hider 😂) his usual method is take in delivery and plonk it down for the magical fairy to lift it and deal with it then dramatically say 'oh you weren't supposed to see that' 🤦‍♀️
