My Mum passed away suddenly recently. I've been coping really well but have been reading a lot about the afterlife. I'm not a religious person, probably agnostic and appreciate that we do not know everything about what happens after death.

The nature of my Mum's death made it feel that there were so many things left unsaid. We were really close and I keep hoping that there is some form of afterlife where she is now happy with her parents and grandparents.

I read a book written by a UK medium and his experience of speaking to Spirit as it is referred to. Anyway, I have booked a session with a medium. The cost is not much and can afford to lose it. I don't think it will upset me regardless of outcome. Have I gone slightly mad? Usually I would be completely skeptical of this sort of thing but I guess losing someone does funny things. Anyway, interested to know if anyone has used a medium and came up feeling better or that it was all a massive con.

so sorry for the loss of your mum. You haven’t gone mad, you’re missing your mum and I think a lot of people reach out to mediums at times like this. I do believe there is something after die. I’ve had mixed experiences with mediums. What I will say is don’t expect that you will hear from her. My auntie passed away and she was very much into the supernatural and mediums and said she’d come back if she could. It took two years after her death that she came through and the things the medium said were so exact that we knew it was her.

I’m sorry for the loss of your mother.

You’ll get a lot of aggressively anti responses here I’m afraid but yes I personally believe in an afterlife. I’ve experienced too many things to not.

However most mediums out there are not genuine unfortunately so it is very hard to find a real one.

@idontknow1001 2 years is not unusual for a delay in them coming through. My trad has a prohibition on trying to contact the recently deceased for at least the first year afterwards. There are a couple of reasons for this.

I’ve heard it’s not uncommon, what are the reasons for this?

I'm sorry for your loss OP
a sudden unexpected death can be especially difficult to cope with and of course your mum has always been part of your life, she will have left a huge hole.
I don't know whether or not there is an afterlife, none of us do really
But I would gently ask you to reconsider going to a medium.

If you read or listen to anything Derren Brown has to say about mediums he explains how easy it is for them to persuade us, when after all we want to be persuaded.
Imagine if you do hear something that you think is a message from your mum- won't you want to go back a second time to hear more? I don't think that is going to help you with grieving and getting to a place where you can treasure your memories and look back on her life with love and acceptance of loss.
what ever you decide, I hope you find peace.

I’ve heard it’s not uncommon, what are the reasons for this?

The main one here is to allow the bereaved to complete the initial grieving process and start to move forward themselves. In a couple of years although the grief remains, the bereaved are better placed themselves and much less likely to become dependant on mediums. A dependency that some of the more unscrupulous charlatans do prey on.

The others are from the deceased’s point of view and are not really suitable to discuss here

So sorry for your loss. We experienced a loss of two family members in one day, both separate circumstances. It was really tough. I sought out a medium to make some peace with it, she was able to describe in SPECIFIC detail about both deaths (both completely different to each other) but she could tell us things we hadn't even know. She told us the cause of death for one of the people before the coroner's had found it, she was able to describe both people exactly and she was able to tell us a few things that were going to happen, that genuinely have all come true, barring one thing but that is a bit further in the future.
I felt honestly cleansed after our conversation, I've had another since then and she was absolutely spot on again. I've referred a few people from work to her and all have had unbelievably accurate readings. I'm sure there are phoney ones out there but there are also people who do genuinely have the gift. Honestly some of the stuff she told me she could absolutely never have known, and it isn't even like she worked it out from my answers because we didn't have any of the answers, she gave them to us before the professionals! That lady saved my sanity!

I have seen one who was excellent and told me things I could not explain (although not what I had gone hoping to hear!), a couple who were predictable and likely to be guesswork and one, who is very highly recommended locally, who was dreadful
I think if you go with low expectations it is fine but I would be concerned that going soon after a traumatic loss may be difficult for you

If any of you live close to Oxfordshire/Berkshire/Bucks I'd be extremely grateful for a recommendation.
