How many of us know anything about angels?

I go on you tube a fair bit and find Lorna Byrne quite soothing to listen to. I know precious little about this area but find it quite fascinating.

Whereas oganised religions do not work for me angels and the notion of guardian angels which we apparently all have is interesting.

I have ordered her book Angels In My Hair.

Any views or experiences anybody? TIA.

I struggle with references to God but believe in a celestial force. A higher power.

I have read that muslims too have mentioned angels in the Koran. Not just Christians in the Bible.

I'm the same as you, churches do nothing for me at all or religion but I believe there is definitely life after death, absolutely 100% and Angels! I talk to mine all the time, they must get fed up with me. Every time one of my daughters gets into her car I put the car in a bubble, bring down a gold shower then a purple shower with an Angel on top and ask them to take her safely to wherever she is going and back home again. I'm not sure what I'd do without my Angels!

Works for car parking as well, ask ahead that your Angels will find a parking space for you.

I luv the fact that our guardian angel is always with us. I see no harm in believing in protective forces if it does not turn us into a fanatic.

Most of us need a little help now and again. Especially in February!

I have never had any proof that my guardian angel is nearby though. On you tube plenty have! Feathers and coins found in the home. Warm glow feeling all of a sudden. Never had any of these.

Lorna Byrne says we can ask our guardian angel to show us signs they are there.

My own experience with angelic beings has been bruising to say the least. They don't look anything like the beautiful beings in classical art and even the biblical descriptions don't reflect that - Their entire bodies, including their backs, hands, and wings, were full of eyes all around, as were their four wheels (Ezekiel 10:12)

Oh wow did not know that! Wonder how they are portrayed in other faiths.

Being of the old persuasion, I work with lots of things, some of which were once human and some that never were. None of them have corporeal bodies any more (if they ever did) so they can assume whatever appearance they like.

I have a firm belief that if they want to work with you, they do their best to appear in a form that they think you'll be OK with. If your Guardian Angel turned up looking like that one from Ezekiel you'd probably run a mile! Much safer to pluck an image of a beautiful human with wings from your mind and the current dominant culture.

It does make me wonder what was in the head of the commentator in that bible chapter to conjure up such a bizarre form!

Augustus40 · 21/02/2024 14:42

Do you think that was just the way the Bible was written. Overly descriptive and a bit stilted? With symbolic meaning rather than literal maybe?

Maybe - it's been translated, and re-translated so many times it's hard to say.

Saladpops · 21/02/2024 16:48

In the Bible whenever an angle appeared people were scared. They had to say do not fear. So presumably they looked awesomely scary.

I had to laugh at summoning a golden shower over your DD though - you do know the other meaning of golden shower don't you? 😊

The book Angels in my Hair arrived but I have found it very simplistic and too many references to God. I would prefer references to the source or to the universe than God which is patriarchal and limiting. Not impressed.

Easier to digest for any staunch Catholics!

I remember one dreadful book I was given on working with angels. To start the process you had to go around the supermarket and buy food with "angel" in them. Things like Angel Food Cake, Angel delight, Angel hair pasta etc.

I really wish I was joking but I'm not.

Yes that is rather naff and over the top!

Diana Cooper used to be the go to person for books on angels. I had them all.

I have two experiences with Angels, that I am aware of anyway!

When I was a little girl, I remember waking up in the night to see an Angel stood praying at the foot of my bed. I remember how tall it was and how bright the light was coming off him/her. Needless to say I was utterly terrified and put the blanket over my head and tried to go to sleep. The next day, my little brother was involved in a shock accident and lost his eye. I felt that seeing the angel was a message that everything would be OK as it was, obviously, a traumatic time ahead.

The next experience I had, I was 14 years old and in my dream an Angel appeared and whisked me away to this room - a pure white room with no features apart from a clothes rail with hangers on. I knew that each hanger represented a loved one of mine. He pulled out one of the hangers, told me that this one was for my brother, and showed me how many beads etc were hung on it (showing that my brother would be more than OK in the future). The next day I discovered my Dad was having an affair on my Mum and had to break the news to both my Mum and my brother....

Also, when my Mum was pregnant with me she was about to cross the road but felt someone pull her dungarees to stop her doing so. She turned around to see who did it - nobody was there - and a car came speeding past simultaneously that she didn't see and would have clearly hit her. She believed that was Angelic intervention!

My father nearly drowned in a swimming pool when he was a child. He said he sunk to the bottom and knew he was going to die, when an angel appeared and lifted him out. He wasn't the least bit woo, and the least gullible person alive. He was very matter of fact about it.

EchoChamber · 29/02/2024 18:54

I have had an experience of being touched by an angel when I was really distressed. I was working with angels generally at the time. I felt it as a tremendous warmth around my heart area, and a loving presence.
