Smelling perfume that isn't there

I'm just lying in bed on my phone and started smelling perfume. It was an old fashioned type of scent. Nobody in the house uses scent and the windows are closed as it's cold. It was definitely perfume. I don't suffer from migraines or seizures or anything and I'm not sleepy in spite of the late hour. I live in a new build house.

What could this mean? 🤔

It’s now gone?

pasteloblong · 11/02/2024 00:18

Yes, it was there for around two minutes

Could be a medical issue.

pasteloblong · 11/02/2024 00:21

I hope it's not medical. Never had anything like that happen before.

It's called parosmia. If you've had covid and a loss of smell you can get it. Other medical conditions also can cause it. It's nothing to worry about.

See if it happens again and if anyone else can smell it.

New build houses can also harbour paranormal activity

I’ve had this most of my life. I started a thread on it a couple of years ago, it’s surprisingly common. I can, at varying times, smell fruit, scent, bacon, woodsmoke, cigarettes. Most odd but I’m okay with it unless it’s mushrooms frying; that means migraine.

it probably phantosmia, smelling things that aren’t real. I get it as I have a neurological condition. For me, it’s usually a burning smell or sometimes sewage- never freshly baked bread, coffee or flowers of course! I’ve not found a pattern, it’s fairly random.
