Trumpet Sounds in the Sky

Did anyone heard a loud, melodious sound, seemingly coming from outside/the sky, yesterday afternoon in the UK?

No.

AlisonWonderbra · 17/01/2024 00:12

Nope. Did you?

SarcasmAndCoffee · 17/01/2024 00:13

GeneCity · 17/01/2024 00:10

No.

Well solves that then 🤣

spackleplumb · 17/01/2024 00:13

No.. but "in the UK" is a bit vague. Surely if it was clear enough to hear across the 4 nations it would've been on the news. I don't mean that as catty as it sounds, genuinely intrigued about any ethereal sound and slightly gutted I didn't hear it. Where in the UK? Aberdeen? Portree? Belfast? Cardiff?

DevonDelight · 17/01/2024 00:24

North West!

Thatladdo · 17/01/2024 00:27

Constant / rising falling tones, what pitch?
Where in the Northwest?

heyduggee12345 · 17/01/2024 00:28

No...

Hermittrismegistus · 17/01/2024 00:28

No. I did hear loud trumpet sounds over a decade ago when walking the dog. We both got spooked and hurried home!

DevonDelight · 17/01/2024 00:33

Yes-very melodious, I don't know about the pitch (sorry, I'm not musical), roughly 10 seconds-I heard it from inside a building.

OP posts:
Thatladdo · 17/01/2024 00:37

😑
You were inside a building or the trumpeter was?

DevonDelight · 17/01/2024 00:38

I was inside, the sound seemed to be outside

OP posts:
Finbrek · 17/01/2024 00:39

Did you notice a blonde long haired fella with a big white dress on around the same time? Looking a bit shifty, fucking about with the clouds?

Thatladdo · 17/01/2024 00:40

Yes, sorry misunderstood at first. My bad

Couldn't have been someone litteraly playing a trumpet?

Finbrek · 17/01/2024 00:40

I think that's rather unlikely.

Thatladdo · 17/01/2024 00:42

Because?

Theres a bloke likes to climb my local fell and play bagpipes, that freaked me out the first time I heard it in the distance 😆

I thought the border raiders had started again

Jimmy Saville wasn't there, as far as i know

OP posts:
Finbrek · 17/01/2024 00:48

Jimmy Savile does not wear a dress!

@Thatladdo Christ, there's a mad old cunt round here that plays the bagpipes. He got a real taste for it in lockdown. Every Thursday clap there he was, piping and wheezing for the NHS. It was a bloody nightmare.

DevonDelight · 17/01/2024 00:50

I was in a meeting and the other person didn't react or appear to hear it. And it was loud-as in, louder than sirens.

OP posts:
Finbrek · 17/01/2024 01:19

Well if you were the only one who heard it it must be a holy visitation. You should start campaigning to be canonised. Warning : it is a lengthy process.

nocoolnamesleft · 17/01/2024 01:23

About a week ago I heard a trumpeting sound from the sky, correctly guessed what it was, and managed to spot the skein of geese flying overhead.

spackleplumb · 17/01/2024 11:44

So Inverness/Dornoch kinda direction then. Bagpipe's definitely a possibility though I'd think you'd recognise them if you're Inverness. So does sound like it's been something else! Geese maybe but again I'm not sure you'd hear that inside the building the way you've described. Your Jimmy Saville comment made me laugh out loud in work here! Nearly spat my tea everywhere and have had to explain to colleagues what I'm laughing about 😄

Mairzydotes · 17/01/2024 11:54

Is there a power station in the general area?
When I was a child, there were a couple power stations a few miles away from where we lived and they would occasionally make a loud noise.

MarshmallowWorld · 17/01/2024 12:02

Was it like music / a tune or just a noise?

AlisonWonderbra · 17/01/2024 12:59

Have you heard The Hum?

This is a good shout, just unlocked a childhood memory for me of that sound.
