Anyone interested in strange goings on may like this.
It's a ten part series ( with a few extra updates ) on BBC sounds

I will leave it up to you to decide if its real or not . . . . . . .

The Battersea Poltergeist - Episode 1: 63 Wycliffe Road - BBC Sounds

Strange events start at an ordinary house in South London. Is it a poltergeist?

I’m a massive Danny Robbins fan, and I listened to this last year. It’s a fascinating case and certainly not easy to explain away.

ScottBakula · 05/04/2023 16:52

It's really strange isn't it.
There are bits that can be explained away , bits that "eh thats odd" and other bits are truly WTF .
It's a great listen .

I do like Danny Robbins podcasts.

ANiceBigCupOfTea · 24/04/2023 09:31

Have you listened to Uncanny? Also by Danny R. I really like it.

UnctuousUnicorns · 24/04/2023 09:37

Uncanny is entertaining and all that, but it's a bloody circus. Complete theatre.

ScottBakula · 24/04/2023 12:24

No I haven't listened to Uncanny, do you know where it is available?

Thank you for sharing this it sounds interesting. I'll take a look.

GreenDressy · 24/04/2023 12:26

Spotify!

NoTeaNoShade · 24/04/2023 12:26

Uncanny is on BBC Sounds app. If you're in the UK there are lots of other tales. Worth a listen if you like this genre.

One of my stories is on Uncanny. It wasn't "complete theatre".

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 24/04/2023 12:46

The bit I really didn't like in Battersea Poltergeist was when she met the psychic who told her who was standing with her. Just weirded me out massively.

UnctuousUnicorns · 24/04/2023 13:24

Sorry, I didn't explain myself very well there. I didn't mean the accounts themselves, but the presentation, the "spooky" music, dramatic pauses, that sort of thing. The way it seems to be done for pure entertainment value. I have seventeen years of experiences myself, but I wouldn't dream of sharing any of it there because I wouldn't feel comfortable with it being presented to the listeners in this way. Plus I'd probably want to reach into my television and strangle the patronising c* that is Prof Chris French.

That said, I do listen to it, and accept and believe the accounts in the same way I'd want my own to be, if I were to share them. I just have a problem with the theatrical nature of the show's presentation.

Let me join you in the strangling of that patronising idiot! Flowers

No way!!!
I'd love to ask you which one was yours, but totally understand if you don't want to share that

I would love to know as well.

I loved this , the Witch Farm and the other uncanny podcasts.

ScottBakula · 24/04/2023 17:33

@GreenDressy @NoTeaNoShade thankyou both I will have a look on them , is there any you would particularly recommend ?
I dont normally listen to this kind of thing but Battersea grabbed my attention

@UnctuousUnicorns , the dramatic pauses annoyed me too , I was listening to it on BBC sounds and kept thinking my phone / head phones were on the blink

The way they explained away some of the incidents was crap too, whether it did or did not happen the explanations seemed like a after thought added to pad out the show , particularly the bed scene

I love them all. Especially Uncanny! Just caught up.

tatteddear · 24/04/2023 20:13

I happened upon on Uncanny on Saturday night as I was driving, at midnight, down some very dark country lanes to pick dd1 up from work which is probably the ideal time to listen to it Grin.
It spooked me out a bit but I've since listened to loads of episodes and I love it!

I couldn't get through the witch farm because it gave me the willies. So odd as I'm not normally susceptible to stuff like this-I don't normally listen to podcasts really so maybe it's just that medium that gets to me in ways others dont!

I think they are making uncanny into a Tv show?

JustDanceAddict · 08/05/2023 09:22

I listened to it a few months ago. Loved it & yes, parts were wtaf - I’m not convinced either way but I do believe that some people have some type of electricity in them that may be the cause of all this. My late parents always picked up on weird shit, esp my dad (he knew Maurice Grose who I think is mentioned in this - he investigated the Enfield poltergeist).

tatteddear · 08/05/2023 09:27

I think some of it actually happened (the noises and disturbances witnessed by others -it would surely be impossible for all those people to be in on a hoax?) and then maybe Shirley and John exaggerated the rest. (And tbh if they did-all those bits about the names in the 1720's theatre etc-almost kudos to them-that must have taken some imagination and research).

If I like uncanny what other podcasts will I enjoy on the same lines? Does anyone know of any good ones? (Im a dog Walker and by the third hour of Walking a day I get a tad bored and I need something in my ears to entertain me! I don't get on that well with audio books but I like an intriguing pod cast)

MargotMargot123 · 20/05/2023 21:15

I love Uncanny, the Witch Farm but personally, the Battersea Poltergeist seemed to elaborated to be true. The ghost claiming to be King Louis (the something)...I could sort of believe it until that point.

tatteddear · 21/05/2023 08:13

I've started listening to an Audi book-voice in the valley-it's a bit like uncanny (but fiction). It's quite good if you like this sort of thing :)
