Probably not the right topic but went to make some toast this morning and my bread's disintegrated.. Confused

Only bought it yesterday, fresh loaf from Sainsbury's. Does this look like a mouse has got in?Shock

Runs to hide 🥲

I can’t help with the bread but I LOVE that you posted this under “the unexplained” 🤣

Have a look at the plastic bag and see if it's been broken. If not, then I wouldn't worry. This has happened to me quite a lot and I think it's air holes within the bread.

DoYouSmellCarrots · 18/02/2023 12:18

I'd say it was baked badly with air holes and just fell apart on transport.

Gingernaut · 18/02/2023 12:20

Looks like a large air bubble was baked in

The dough wasn't mixed properly or kneaded after the proving

VeronicaBeccabunga · 18/02/2023 12:26

I agree with posters above that this is a case of 'flying crust' caused by the bread not being properly proved.

The supermarket 'bakeries' have dough delivered ready to stick in the oven so you buy 'fresh baked bread' but not really freshly 'made' bread, but the shop smells nice.

pizzaHeart · 18/02/2023 12:27

I also wonder if it’s had an air bubbles inside. I’ve got them in our home made bread often if I’m doing Italian style loaf.

OhNoNotThatAgain · 18/02/2023 12:44

Some ham-fisted clod has picked it up slightly too firmly.

ComeTheFckOnBridget · 18/02/2023 12:45

Ghosts. Obviously.

tonyslab · 18/02/2023 12:56

@ShirleyPhallus 🤣

Is there a baking topic on here anywhere? Was prepared to be told it was a mousy fucker and I would have to move country.

Glad the general consensus is an incompetent baker, want my £1.40 back 🤨 Thank you all for your expert knowledge :) x

@OhNoNotThatAgain it's me, I'm the ham-fisted clod

@ComeTheFckOnBridget

I knew I'd get a completely rational explanation on The Unexplained board😁

Carb-loving poltergeists.

custardbear · 18/02/2023 13:19

Mice would leave a smell and poo droppings ... though ghost mice may not 🤔

tonyslab · 18/02/2023 13:25

@CrackedLookingGlass I'll be coming back as one if my love for bread extends to the afterlife

@custardbear I did look for droppings this morning and nothing! There was a hole in the plastic but it was more like a cut rather than jagged-y so wasn't sure Confused

If you're not 100% sure on the hole/tear then don't eat it.

We had a mouse in our old house that ate bread... only then it turned out it was a rat.

Shannith · 18/02/2023 14:01

Loom at you all desperately looking for a rational explanation to what is clearly soo. Just because you don't believe doesn't make it so.

Definitely a sign of a presence. I suggest sageing the house, calling a local priest - they will have dealt with this kind of thing before. Also walk round your house telling bread ghost that they can go now, this is your house and you need fresh carbs.

Shannith · 18/02/2023 14:03

Woo and look. A ghoooost has clearly taken over my phone and likes ooo's to be unencumbered by the right letters before and after.

Me too!

I was expecting to read your mozzarella ciabatta was suddenly levitating Grin

FlickyCrumble · 18/02/2023 14:10

If a mouse had eaten it there would be droppings right next to the loaf. They eat and poop in the same breath. I think it’s the cutting machine cutting the bread to soon after baking. Bread should be cool before cutting for nice slices.
