Unless you can convince me otherwise...
I'm still in shock. Walking through the grounds of Christchurch College in Oxford, we entered the cathedral. My teenage dc and I had our headphones on for the guided tour. As we were leaving the cathedral (I was walking ahead) I felt someone prodding me in my shoulder. Immediately assuming it was one of the kids, I spun around only to find them a long way behind, concentrating on the guided tour.

I must have paled or looked horrified because as they came closer they asked what was wrong and if I was OK. I asked them if they'd prodded me and both looked genuinely clueless as to what had happened.

Any plausible explanations? My son, ever the sceptical scientist has suggested a nerve pinching. Er, no. It was definitely a distinct feeling of being gently but firmly poked twice in my shoulder.

Muscle spasm.

stirling · 01/09/2022 21:05

legalseagull maybe. Never felt anything like that before.

A parasitic insect has laid eggs under the skin on your shoulder and you are feeling the grubs moving around as they develop.
Better now?

👽?

DWMoosmum · 07/09/2022 15:25

You may well have felt something. You're in a really old building with so much history, not all of it good. Might have been a muscle spasm, might have been something prodding you. I'm not sure I believe in ghosts but I definitely believe in something.

Kanaloa · 07/09/2022 15:27

You imagined it?

ffsnotagainandagain · 10/09/2022 19:21

My sceptical DH had this experience in Bodmin Jail years ago. He felt something tug at his clothing, thinking it was me he turned around to realise he was alone in a room and I had wondered off already

ThisIsNotAFlyingToy · 10/09/2022 19:24

I love the way you ask for a plausible explanation while suggesting a ghost or spirit as a realistic option.

Want2beme · 25/09/2022 11:16

Years ago, I experienced this many times. I was always on my own when it happened. I wondered if it was a nerve being pinched, but to me it definitely felt like prods.

PinkStickleBrick · 25/09/2022 11:20

I've had this many times so doubt you imagined it. Once I looked at the area straight after and I did look the skin was a bit different colour. No idea what it was.

It's normally on my shoulders

stirling · 28/09/2022 11:01

Want2beme and PinkStickleBrick thank you. Helps to know its happened to others.

This happened to DH in the RSC theatre in Stratford. He was convinced someone had poked him hard in the shoulder, but there was no one there; he was at the end of the row and we were up in the Gods. The most obvious explanation would be a muscle spasm, but who knows?

custardbear · 12/12/2022 05:09

I have this, or brushing past me. Sometimes I hear my name being called (often half asleep so probably dreaming there), but sometimes when I'm awake. I put it down to my dead relatives popping by to say hello!

DeFacto · 12/12/2022 05:16

I hear ghosts are super-keen to prod people

They do make a huge effort to come over from the other side to poke you.

Tis fact.

I experienced almost exactly the same thing OP about 25 years ago whilst in Cornwall on holiday. We were walking underground in an old mineshaft on a guided tour when I was jabbed twice on my shoulder blade really forcefully. I turned round quickly expecting it to be one of my daughters but they were walking with my husband some way back.
I was quite shocked tbh and have never forgotten it. Had no idea it could have been a muscle spasm but as it was the only time I've ever experienced it I prefer to think it was one of the Cornish pixies having a laugh 😊
