Went on a course over the last week. It was held in a hospital but not in a part that was being used for treating patients, mostly funded by the university so nice and new, no old pipes etc.

After the lunch break today I needed the loo so as everyone else was heading back in I quickly nipped into the ladies.

Sat on the loo and heard crying in the cubicle next to me. Just sat thinking to myself should I say anything and pondering on whether it was someone on the course who found the anatomy lecture a bit too overwhelming but decided in the end I'd leave them to their privacy.

Except when I left my cubicle and looked at the one next to me the door was open and no one there.

No one had left since I had been I there or I would have heard- the door to the ladies was squeaky.

No windows either, and anyway the crying sounded just like it was next to me, within touching distance!

I don't really go in for the supernatural but this honestly had my hairs standing up

That sounds super-spooky! Have you tried Googling to see if there’s any history of this sort of thing with the building?

MoonSpoonSoon · 25/03/2022 22:02

Could they have left the room when you flushed the toilet and therefore you didn't hear them leave?

Wartywart · 25/03/2022 22:10

Did you notice if that cubicle door was closed when you went into your cubicle?

Is there an air vent in the loos which could have brought the sound from another room? How thin are the walls / ceiling tiles in there?

There will definitely be a rational explanation.

Possible but I really don't think so, you know how you are just aware of movement, shoes and closing doors and things- even with other noise happening? Don't think the flush would have drowned everything out, I was positive there was a person still very much in the cubicle next to me, absolutely floored me to find it was empty!

See that's the thing I think it was but can't be sure! Pretty sure the reason I chose the one I went in was because the one closest to the entrance was in use.

Could be air vents or thin walls I suppose but the sound was so very close and I was sure it was right next to me!

Just very quiet crying and sniffing

Name change fail OP?

I think sometimes in toilets you can hear or think you hear things and people can leave so quickly that you wouldn’t know. I’d love for this to be woo but I think either you misheard things or the person left quietly.
