I've posted this story before, so I'll give you the potted version (with an update).
During lockdown, so just DH and me in the house (23 hrs a day). I was wearing a pair of small diamond earrings as my go-to's. At night I drop them into a tray on the dresser.
One morning I could only find one.
After an extensive weeks-long search, I accept I've lost it somehow, and send the remaining one off to have a replacement/match made.
Lockdown lifts, we go on holiday.
When I come back, the missing earring is back in the tray where I had last dropped it.
The update bit is that, last year, we flew to see my PILs. At the airport, removing my mask to show Security my face, I felt something tug slightly at my ear. (Assumed it was the mask catching on my hearing aid.)
On the other side of Security, I realise it was an earring that had popped. For weeks after getting back, I meant to contact the airport lost-and-found to check it it had been handed in (but thought the chances were vanishingly slim, so didn't get round to it). Then I found the earring, in one of the random places I put them when I take them off.
(Yes, I might have gone off that morning with only one earring in; but, really, given my OCD-ness around my jewellery, that is Far More Unlikely a possibility than that there is a fourth dimension that we intersect with from time to time, to the detriment of our store of earrings and glasses.)
