Ghost stole my glasses....

So, I lost my reading glasses a month ago, twice have searched my car thoroughly. My spare pair broke this morning, so I had another good look in the car - nowhere to be seen. I went on a short journey to visit a client and when I got back in the car, the missing glasses were in the centre consol! They were DEFINITELY not there earlier as I had searched, as I have been been for the past month. I am the only keyholder and no-one else has access, I am of sound mind and there is not a reasonable explanation. I am certain that something other-worldly stole them, then kindly returned them as they realised that I was in need. Has something weird like happened to you?

Ooh how bizarre! Something similar happened to DH and I recently. We sat down to watch tv one evening, both looking around for the remote, nowhere to be seen. Both stood and checked sofa around us (cream sofa, black remote, so not like it would be camouflaged) and couldn't see it so sat back down. I then got up to press the search button on the Sky receiver, turned around and the remote was there on the arm of the sofa!
I have experienced things disappearing and reappearing in random obvious places all my life. I think it's either parallel universes or fairies playing tricks Smile

I'm glad I'm not the only one! Really odd and I was a bit freaked out when I saw them lying there as I had repeatedly searched for them for the past month. It's especially weird that they appeared on the same morning that my spare pair broke!

Over the years I've had jewellery go missing and turn up in places where I would not have put it, also when I'm sad I often find a large white feather on my foam-filled pillow.

I've posted this story before, so I'll give you the potted version (with an update).

During lockdown, so just DH and me in the house (23 hrs a day). I was wearing a pair of small diamond earrings as my go-to's. At night I drop them into a tray on the dresser.

One morning I could only find one.

After an extensive weeks-long search, I accept I've lost it somehow, and send the remaining one off to have a replacement/match made.

Lockdown lifts, we go on holiday.

When I come back, the missing earring is back in the tray where I had last dropped it.

The update bit is that, last year, we flew to see my PILs. At the airport, removing my mask to show Security my face, I felt something tug slightly at my ear. (Assumed it was the mask catching on my hearing aid.)

On the other side of Security, I realise it was an earring that had popped. For weeks after getting back, I meant to contact the airport lost-and-found to check it it had been handed in (but thought the chances were vanishingly slim, so didn't get round to it). Then I found the earring, in one of the random places I put them when I take them off.

(Yes, I might have gone off that morning with only one earring in; but, really, given my OCD-ness around my jewellery, that is Far More Unlikely a possibility than that there is a fourth dimension that we intersect with from time to time, to the detriment of our store of earrings and glasses.)

I had earrings I thought I’d lost and one randomly turned up but then I lost a Tiffany one years ago and never found that so I’ve got no idea!

This has happened to us a few times since we lost my grandad.

First time: nana realised one earring from her favourite pair was missing. She hunted high and low for it but accepted it was gone. A few days later she walked into the kitchen and it was in the middle of the kitchen floor. Was definitely not there before.

Second: start of December, my mum had got the decorations out of the loft. Lights and wires tangled to f**k. She lost her temper, threw them down and went for a glass of wine and a cigarette!! Went back in the living room and the lights were laid out perfectly untangled.

Most recent: me and DH had bought a new TV and the picture wasn't working properly, funny line down the screen. We searched high and low for the receipt so we could take it back, couldn't find it anywhere after an evening of turning the house upside down! Came down next morning and it was on the coffee table.

I always offer up a silent "thankyou granddad" when these things happen!!

Sometimes what is right in front of you doesn't register- your eyes see it but the correct msg doesnt get transmitted to your brain.

A bit like car sickness when your brain gets muddled about where you are.

Oblomov22 · 10/03/2022 21:06

These things are all wierd. You just can't explain it.

WhiteJellycat · 10/03/2022 21:07

I'm fantastic at losing things. But this happens to me too.

One night dh was charging his phone by his bed. It's always by his bed as it's his alarm. In the morning it was the dining table.

Last week a pair of my clean pants was in the middle of the living room. No idea where they came from as they wasnt there before.

The phone thing happened while we was moving into a new house while still in the old house. A few weird things happened that week.

Cleaning kitchen the other morning and put dustpan & brush down by table, cleared something else away and then brush had disappeared, searched kitchen it wasn’t anywhere then turned up in middle of floor 3 hours later, I’ve been seeing shadows out the corner of my eye for a few days so I think someone’s trying to get my attention

custardbear · 13/03/2022 12:56

I've had this, they turned up after about a week on top of the microwave - I had the whole thing out and looked behind it so they weren't there, nothing above it. Bizarre!

Nodancingshoes · 18/03/2022 12:33

I lost Ds1 red baby book once. I looked everywhere. I turned all the kitchen drawers out - it was no where. I had PND and already felt like a failure. Just before I left for the appointment, I thought I'd have one last look, pulled open a drawer and it was there on the top! I remember actually saying 'Thanks mum!' (I lost my mum as a teenager) cos that was the only explanation in my mind!
