Key disappearing and then reappearing

Something very odd happened to me this morning.

I have recently taken on an allotment. Last week I was given a key to the gate, which costs £25 to replace, and when I came home I'd placed it on the corner of a little wooden table at the bottom of the stairs.

This morning I was planning to go to the allotment after dropping the children off at school. I went to fetch the key and it was not there. I searched the top of the table, moved everything on the table and looked underneath in case it had fallen off. It wasn't there, and I then got really cross assuming one of the children had picked it up and moved it.

My youngest was eating cereal in the kitchen, my eldest was upstairs, husband in the kitchen.

I went upstairs to grab something, and when I turned back to the top of the stairs (with a full view of the stairs and the table at the bottom), THE KEY WAS THERE! Plain as day, precisely where I thought I'd put it in the first place!

Everyone was still doing what they had been doing when I went up the stairs so nobody had chance to put it there and they all denied all knowledge.

I know my husband thinks it was there all along and I just didn't see it. In all honesty if I was in his shoes I would think exactly the same. I absolutely 100% know it wasn't there though.

It's actually made me feel really uneasy, because even though I would have said I'm a believer, nothing this clear cut has ever happened to me before.

I'd love to hear anybody else's stories of the unexplained!

My story involves a key too...
At work because I'm in a promoted post, I have a key to all of the locked storage cupboards. I have it signed out in my name and I wear it on my lanyard. I usually check on it during the day, kind of a thumb the key before I go home and also when I put it on in the morning.

Anyway, one evening I had stayed really late because I had an important deadline coming up - 9pmish when everyone else had left at 5. I went to thumb the key and it wasn't there! I was suddenly a lot more stressed. I retraced all my steps that day, I was really upset (obviously spill over of stress from everything else) and went back to my room to collect my laptop and turn out the light.

There, in the middle of my desk, next to my laptop, was my key. There was no way I would have missed that, and all the cleaners had gone home at 8. My room is on the 3rd floor and only has 1 stair well, which I had walked up and down to retrace my steps and had seen no security guard. It was the strangest thing.

In fact, it's been ages since I thought of it, I only remembered because of your strange key related story!

Wow @Introvertedbuthappy that's definitely very weird! I bet it gave you goosebumps? I know I felt all the hairs go up on the back of my neck when my key reappeared👻

Well what do you think? I think the keys were there all the time having had similar experiences of not seeing something right in front of me.

I've had this happen loads of times. Maybe some elves are making mischief?! Alternatively we're missing something obvious because our brain is following a predictable path?

When it happens I dont really puzzle over it. I just think its one of lifes mysteries that make us realise more goes on then our everyday consciousness is aware of.. Alot more
