Unexplained things happening in my house

Hi all,

So, I only lived in this house now for a matter of years but strange things have been happening. Like for example this morning, I put roast puds in the oven and made up some gravy to go with it for breakfast and after I made the gravy, I went to the back door to have a smoke as I usually do, as it doesn't take long for the puds to cook (5 mins). I didn't hear the timer go off but I noticed that the oven had been turned off!!! It's a manually operated oven (the timer I talk about is completely separate to the oven). I was skeptical of an afterlife and spirits years ago but not anymore after my friend sent me a voice clip of a spirit he was talking to. I've experienced lots of other things too (predicted a few things too and been right about people I had a bad feeling about) for example, my daughter has one of those baby shark toys that goes in the bath. It's touch sensitive so someone would have to touch it in order to make its tail move and play the song. A few months ago I was sat in the kitchen and I heard it go off. It stopped after a while and then started up again. I walked into the bathroom and it stopped. I wish I had recorded it! I know there are lots of threads like this but just wanted to share my experiences because I'm thoroughly freaked out after this morning. I guess whoever is here with me (I live alone btw) is looking after me at least lol. Does anyone have similar experiences to share?

Honestly, I think you’re massively over-interpreting a glitchy oven (ours is old and does similar) and an erratic bath toy — I once nearly had a heart attack when I walked into our kitchen in the dark to make DS a bottle and one of those farmyard puzzles started mooing. Why was your friend recording himself ‘talking to a spirit’? And unless you were present when the recording was being made, how do you know he wasn’t just talking to another person?

@Clandestin my oven has never been glitchy and the dials were turned off. One of them was on 200 and if it was to glitch, I don't think It would go straight back to being turned off. I questioned myself for a moment wondering if I had come back in to turn it off but I know I didn't, plus the puds were cooked. The toy could of malfunctioned but again, very strange how it went off as soon as I entered the room. The device my friend was using is used to pick up on stuff whilst Ghost hunting. He did say it works through a radio frequency but it still doesn't make any sense how the person knew his name. I don't think you can talk to people the device, just record.

I want to know more about puds and gravy for breakfast. Yorkshire puddings??

StarCourt · 26/10/2021 10:27

Yes I was wondering what a roast pud is?

@Slub haha! 😂 I had them for breakfast as moneys a little tight at the mo until I'm next paid, and I don't want to use up all my bread!

@Clandestin I get it if you don't believe in this kind of stuff but I've already exhausted all the rational explanations I can come up with, as I always do. My friend never told the spirit his name as you can hear him saying in the clip 'how do you know my name?'

Roast pud.. Yorkshire pudding? Lol

Hmm….

difficultdayahead · 26/10/2021 10:33

I don't think those things are paranormal. They both have perfectly rational explanations.

AuntieDolly · 26/10/2021 10:33

Putting the oven on is cheaper than eating bread? (Missing the point completely)

SoupDragon · 26/10/2021 10:36

Mice can set off touch sensitive things.

You only heard a recording of your friend talking to a "spirit". That's hardly difficult to explain away,

GoodnightGrandma · 26/10/2021 10:36

@AuntieDolly

Exactly.
Clandestin · 26/10/2021 10:39

I just think there are multiple non-supernatural explanations for the oven switching itself off and the bath toy starting to work.

And again, presumably you weren’t there when the ‘spirit recording’ was made, so the obvious explanation was that your friend was talking to another live human being on his radio, whether or not he knew it. Someone was hoaxing him, or he was hoaxing you?

Didydani · 26/10/2021 10:41

Look, I get it if you guys don't believe in this stuff but I do and I know it can be hard to believe, especially if you haven't experienced anything like it yourself. It had been a mouse, I would of spotted it when I was in there. My daughter said to me on a video call once (she was at my mums, me I my house) 'who's that man?'. She's done stuff like this before when she was younger, smiling up into random corners of the living room where there's nothing of interest..

Bath toy - toys and small items often go glitchy when the battery is low. We have a radio controlled clock in the hallway and when the battery is low the hands spin round. Creepy yes. Paranormal no.

Yes but she doesn't have to pay for the electricity at this moment in time, whereas she would have to pay for the bread now. That's what being skint it all about - working out how you can actually eat
ImprobablePuffin · 26/10/2021 11:52

I have an oven like yours OP with a twist dial is that right? I can't see how my oven could switch itself off with a 'glitch' as you'd have to turn the dial almost a full revolution.

I don't have any explanations only that I agree the oven thing is quite odd. To the posters saying it's clearly a glitch, how does an oven knob twist itself off?

Inthesameboatatmo · 26/10/2021 12:01

I hear what you are saying op I get it.
The oven thing is weird the toy could be a glitch though, but if other weird things are happening then 🤷‍♀️

Well, the presence of a young child in the house and the OP being outside on a fag break suggests one obvious explanation.
Aposterhasnoname · 26/10/2021 12:24

My gs has that baby shark toy, goes off by itself all the time, it’s not a ghost, it’s a cheap toy glitching.

The oven is a bit harder to explain, but the kid doing it, you doing it and forgetting, and you forgetting to put it on in the first place are all far more likely explanations. Don’t get me started on the friends recording.

I actually have a ton of stories from my old house, so it’s not that I don’t necessarily believe in this stuff, just that the examples you give have more rational explanations.

Didydani · 26/10/2021 12:31

To the posters saying my daughter did it, she doesn't live with me. I did mention earlier on that I live alone and yes, it it a twist dial, hence why it can't be a glitch.

I didn't forget to put it on.. the puds were cooked as I mentioned earlier. That how I know I didn't switch it off myself and I went through what I did a hundred times before I went to the back door.. it wasnt me.

We have that bath toy and it’s a little bastard. I had to get out of the shower this week as I could hear a strange noise and I was convinced something was about to explode in the boiler. It was that bloody thing glitching like mad on the bathroom floor. This has reminded me to throw it out. Thanks op. Nothing spooky here, just a crappy toy that I berated DH for ever buying in the first place.

TasteTheMeatNotTheHeat · 26/10/2021 12:38

The toy going off is a non event. These things happen a lot. But the oven dial turning off is very strange...hm...

Clandestin · 26/10/2021 12:41

@Didydani, I remember your username from a lengthy previous thread where you seemed terribly invested in whether a friend secretly had romantic feelings for you, despite him declaring he was about to go and live in Japan and had had endless opportunities (and encouragement from you) to go out with you, and hadn't, and got extremely cross with posters who pointed this out.

You are clearly a vulnerable person that thread also explained why your daughter doesn't live with you who seems to get very obsessed with explaining things according to a narrative that suits you. I think, you're doing the same thing here. I don't think there's any indication that there aren't perfectly ordinary explanations for what you describe.

And I hope the friend with the ghost-recording device isn't the friend you harbour romantic feelings for, and that he did go off and live in Japan.
